Detailed History

Geraldine’s Beauty Parlor is mislabeled in The Green Book; it was actually located at 205 Thurbers Ave, not 265. Geraldine’s was a long-standing business that operated at least as early as 1935 and continued well past its listing into the 1960s.

Geraldine was Mrs. Geraldine I. Taylor, a widow whose husband, Joseph K. Taylor, had died some years prior to 1940.  She owned the business and lived at 207 Thurbers Ave., which was probably the upstairs unit in the building.

205 Thurbers was demolished in 1956, a year after Geraldine's last appearance in The Green Book. The modern apartment complex that stands on this lot was constructed in 2009.
