Chief of Staff &c
General
I desire to bring to your the notice of the Lt Genl the case of private Henry C. Koch Co. B. 24th Wis Inf who has been serving with me in the Topographical Engineer Dept since Nov. 8th 1862 Private Koch's services have been invaluable to me in surveying and mapping the Country through which I have passed during the time he has been with me exhibiting at all times the utmost zeal and proficiency in his duties

His term of service expires on the 21st of August 1865. He has a mother and three sisters dependent on him for support. I therefore respectfully request that if it be consistent he be discharged the service at once to enable him to avail himself of an opportunity for employment in the Engineer Dept. for wages which will more adequately contribute to the support of those depending upon him and at / the same time more fairly compensate him for his valuable services

I am Sir
Very respectfully
