Memorandum Order.                                                                          
 
            Major A.C. Mathews Actg Asst Insp Genl and Captain M.C. Garber Chief Qr Mr will repair to Indianola and attend to the execution of the following order in relation to the disposition of certain public and captured horses in the possession of the Officers at that Post.
 
Captain Wilson                       Has two public horses which are not branded. both of these Asst Adgt Genwill be immediately turned over to Capt Garber who will  have them branded.
 
Lieut. Torrence                       Has two public horses, one of which is not branded. That one will be immediately turned over to Capt Garber &  branded. The one which is branded now will be receipted for to Captain Garber if it has not already been receipted for to some one else
 
Capt Lowe                               Has three public two of which are not branded. The two .A.Q.M. which are not branded will be immediately turned over to Captain Garber and branded. The one which is now branded will, if not already borne / on Capt Lowe's property return, be receipted for to Capt. Garber.
 
Capt Ballard                            Has 47 horses, only ten of which are branded. The whole will be immediately receipted for to Capt Garber if not already borne on some property return & regularly accounted for and Capt Garber will see that all those which are not branded are immediately branded.
 
Col Washburne                       Has one captured horse which is not branded. It will be immediately turned over to Capt Garber and branded.
 
Surgeon G. W. Gordon           Has one captured horse which is not branded. It will be immediately turned over to Capt Garber and branded.
 
Lieut H. D. Crane                   Has one captured horse which is not branded. It will be immediately turned over to Capt Garber and branded.
18th Ind.       
               
Lieut Card                               Has 25 public mules, twenty of which are not branded. Captain Garber will see them immediately branded.
30 pi battery                
 
Lieut Atkinson                        Has four captured horses, which are not branded. They  will be immediately turned over to Capt Garber and branded. /

The Chaplain                          Has one captured horse which is not branded. It will be  immediately turned over to Capt Garber and branded
8th Ind           
             
Major W. D. Crook                 Has one captured horse which is not branded. It will be immediately turned over to Capt Garber & branded.
21 Iowa                   
  
Lieut Col. C. J. Clark              Has one captured horse which is not branded. It will be  immediately turned over to Capt Garber and branded
23d Iowa     
               
Regtl Q.M. Merrill                  Has two captured horses which are not branded. They will be immediately turned over to Captain Garber and branded.
23d Iowa                      
 
Captain Garber will for the present postpone the branding of four of the most serviceable horses which are turned over to him, till certain staff scouts are furnished with good mounts to return into the interior
