Charles E. Leland to Charles M. Leland, 28 February 1862
Headquarters Co B 13th Regt Mass Vol.
Williamsport, Md Feby 28th 1861

Dear Father.
I thought I would write you a few lines this evening, to let you know that we are going to cross into Dixie early to morrow morning, or any way to morrow. We have been told to get ready to start to night. I shall not put this in the P.O. until we start, or I am sure that we are a going to. We are going to Martinsburg to morrow, but I do not think we shall stop there / very long, but proceed to Winchester. By the way the boy that drums for us is from Martinsburg, and is not much larger than Henry. It is quite cold to night and very windy. I am glad that I am not on guard to night, as I can get some good sleep. When you write me send me a few postage stamps and direct the same as before. I expect we shall have a pretty tough time next month, but I guess I can stand it. When I write again I shall probably be in Dixie. I will write as soon as I get time, and hoping to hear from you soon I am / your affectionate son
Chas. E. Leland.

Give my love to all.

We are off.

The Indiana 12th is with us.
