Charles E. Leland to Charles M. Leland, 13 September 1862
13th Regt Mass Vol
In camp near Ridgeville Md
Sept 13th 1862
Dear Father.
As I have a little spare time I thought I would write you a few lines letting you know that I am safe and well. We were on the march all day yesterday and the day before and are now about fifteen miles from Frederick City. We can hear cannon from that direction to day and there is a fight probably going on. The boys are all quite well with the exception of the diarhea making us sick one day and well the next.
The Jamaica ginger comes very handy now and most of the boys have some.
I expect we shall get paid off soon as it is nearly time.
As I have got to go on guard you will have to excuse me for not / writing more. I will write again very soon please write soon and oblige your Affectionate son
Chas E. Leland
Co B.
Love to all.
George Worcester sends his respects.
