Charles E. Leland to Charles M. Leland, 3 April 1863
Camp near Fletchers Chapel
April 3rd 1863
Dear Father
I received your kind letter the other day and will now endeavor to answer it. There is no news in camp nor do I much at home I suppose. I received those that paper relating to the commissions in Cold regiment. I can get the Colonel, Captain, Lieut &c to sign it and I hope it will prove satisfactory
I have not got a Corporal's warrant as yet but there are five vacancies in the Co. I am glad to hear of Clarks good luck in getting a discharge and hope he will get a commission. I wrote to Geo Worcester and he has answered my letter. He writes no news of any importance and says business is dull in W. / He also speaks of my promotion and says he hopes I shall get it. When I do I shall most assuredly write and thank him for his kindness I do not think much of the consolidation bill nor do any of the boys.
I should like very much to visit your new home very much and I can guess pretty near where it stands. I will tell you of a very good man to sign that paper of mine and that is Schouler A. G. commanding Militia of Massachusetts and there is nothing like influence in getting these things especially "Political". There is nothing I should like better than a commission and besides I could visit home quite often. I guess I know as much as the a great many about Co and even battallion movements.
As there is no news I will close this / letter hoping that it will find all the folks alive and well. I am your Affectionate son
Chas E. Leland
Ps. I will send those papers either to day or to morrow.
