William W. Stickney to George W. Stickney, 18 March 1865
near the White House Landing Va March 18/65

Dear Father & Friends
After a march of twenty days in the enimies lines and on all sides of their Capital we have finealy fought up to the White House to day we left camp on the 27th day of Feb

I expect we will draw rations here which will be very exceptable and then what direction we take is more than I can tell we have had a very severe march and the boys are all fatigued out but none of them has been hurt we have had too small fights since we started besides considerable skirmishing but have had but very few men hurt we have captured a large quantity of war material perhaps you will get the account of it / better in the paper than I could give it to you for our Comand was divided a good deal of the time so it was impossable for a fellow to see all that was done

The weather since we started the most of the time has been very fine for this time of the year but we have had to incounter a greate deal of mud since we started some the way it was so bad it looked as though that a colum could not move

But you must excuse me from writing much this time

so good bye from
Wallace
