My Dearest Julia
I have just recd your kind and very welcome letter and hasten to answer it I was glad to hear that you was well I am also glad to inform you that I am well and sincerely hope those few lines may find you enjoying the same blessing I am happy to inform you that I received your beautiful likeness but I must confess that I hardly new it at first sight it is a very beautiful picture but / it does not look much like the other one that I have of yours I am going to get a case for it and then I can keep it nice Well dear Julia I have not much news to write every thing is quiet here I do not know when we will move nor in what direction but I do not think it will be very long The news are very good from all the armies at present and I think a little activity on our part would soon play this war out and I think it will any way / I had seen a list of the drafted befor I recd your letter I was a little surprised to hear that James was drafted but still I think it was a good joke on him but I did not expect that he would go for I suppose he has money enough to pay his three hundred dollars and I liked to see Jont Morrow and Andy Minteer for they are the men that came to butler with us and then went back it hit them nicely The weather is very warm here now

We got paid off yesterday I will send you a present in this letter I am surprised to hear that Daves girl is married I thought she was going to wait until he came home but she has not been true to him if they did ever love each other but I suppose she is happy now

I am glad to hear that you are getting along so well with your harvest

Well Julia I must get an other sheet of paper I have not wrote enough noncense yet for that is most all I can write
