mrs Delia ann dear mother
I take the pleasure of riting you a fiew lines to let you know that i am well at this time an hope these fiew lines may find you all well i received yore letter that you rote on the 17 of march yesterday i received a pare of socks that you started by mr salter i heard that uncle James had come home i want you to rite if he has come home or not altimon Ellis is well we are campt close to gether now i think we will go to tennesse in two or three days i want you to rite how you an the children are geting a long i will send you some money by first chace i have the say we / will get money to morow i suppose that you are sending Julia an james to school to mr mc donalld an you have mooved to the kelly place i heard that riley were geting provisions for the woman children i want you to rite where you killed any of your hogs or not you wanted to no what i think about peace i dont think that they will be peace in good while i have not heard from the rest of the boys in a good while but i will rite to in a fiew days
i sent you 20 dollars an i want you rite if you got it or not i have not rote but one letter since i left home but i hope you will not think / hard of it the reason i dint rite we have bin a mooveing a bout so but you may look for letters now the next letter i send i think i will try an get some postage stamps an send you i will get you one or two papers of needles if i can get a pair of cards any wher i will do so the captain is a going to try to get my bounty to morow when we get our pay i will try to get some thing to send to the children you must tell me how the children learn in your letters you must rite to me if i had a chance i would send you some paper but i will send you money an you can by it
nothing more at present if you rite soon back you letters to vicksburg miss i remain yore affection son until death
