Camp Clay Ohio
July 3th 1861
Dear friends. I take this opportunity to inform you that i am still on the mend I left Indianapolis with the regiment in a half an hour after I got there we are camped 5 m. above Cincinnati awaiting further orders from general McClellan I think i will stand the trip finely. we expect to start in a day or two we got a fine lunch in Cincinnati I am staying at the hospital / and getting fat
we traveled all night which made me feel rather pale for a while I gues i will have to quit writing and go to rubbing my good for nothing old musket which will take me the rest of the day no more at present but remain forever.
