Cheat mountain pass Aug 5th 1861
 
Dear Sister I did not get to send my letter yesterday and so I thought I would write some more to day it is raining to day and I wish I was at home but there is no use talking about it. I want you to write and tell me how old Jack is getting along and whether you ride him to meeting any or no and I want you to tell me all about Will and how soon you are a going to get married and all about the girls in genral I have not got time to tell you who love the best this time I want you to be a good girl and tell lina and rachel to be there is no telling how soon I may be at home although I may be sent to my long home before long / but we must hope for better things gordon has got lots of secession trinkets he took at rich mountain and I think we will get some ourselves before long give my love to mother and grandmother I want you to write to me every at least, and tell uncle George I want him to write to me.
 
So no more at present but remain your Affectionate
