Elk Water Camp Sep 17th 1861
 
Dear Sister
                        I take my pen in hand to inform you that I am well and hope these few lines may find you all in good health. I wrote a letter to another yesteray that I guess had all the news in it that I know of now so I will write this one to you individualy
 
I want you to tell me what kind of a time you had at the celebraton and if there is any boys left who they are and who they go to see and who keeps you awake of Sunday nights and how fat old jack is and how all the stock looks and tell jane robinson that as soon as I have time I allow to write the longest gassiest letter she ever read for I have no time to do my thing now but march scout skirmish and stand picket guard 
 
I forgot to say that got your letter of the 5th yesterday and I wish you would write oftener at least you must write as often as you can and give my best respects to margery, afem Luesa jane Em. and all the rest of the girls you asked me in a letter if there was any pretty boys in our company. about all I know is that the most of them is ragged dirty and lousy
 
Gordon Black Mose Bill Banty Ed andrews and all the rest of the ripley boys are well
 
write and tell me what is the number of the reg pa is in and the letter of the company
 
Wish Al and mandy much joy and tell them to charge it to me give my love and best respects to every one of the folks and all of the little Cousins
