Dear Miss
I Take This presant Opertunity Of Sending you A Few lines to Inform you that I am still on the Land of the Liveing I am well and doing the best I can and I hope when these few lines come to hand they may find you all well I am now in the state of Maryland where we have been in camp about two months I have been in the service of military life for some / Five months in which we remained in the state of Indiana some 3 months of our time then we was ordered to this State where we First came to Harpersfery where we remained in camp about 3 weeks Then we took up our line march in the direction of Washington City we march the distance of 40 miles across the country we are now in 19teen miles of Washington 4 miles of the potomac River. I like camp life first rate I am geting use to hardships to day was thanks given day among all the soldiers of the United State / Yesterday we was marched to a field about three miles from camp to where there was preaching There was something like 20 thousand men I am in gen Banks Colume which contains some 35 thousand men which 4 Regiment of Indiana troops We have a easy time in camp to what we had in Ind. we are expecting a battle in a few days when you rite tell me whether george is in the army or not I saw him at Indianapolis last spring when we was there a drilling 
 
I would give most anything to hear from him I would like to go with him to Olean again I never will forget the times we had together I rote a letter to Olean the other day. This is about all I can think of now only send my best respect to you and your folks so no more at presant only remain your Friend
