Huttonville Va Oct the 16th 1861
Dear Sister I take my pen in hand to address you a few lines hopeing they may find you in good health for my part I dont feel very well to day I have a bad cold and have a pain in my breast and hear but I think I will feel better soon
Dear sister you said in your last letter you did not want me to write to em whitaker and I am glad to say I never have wrote to her only just to mention my respects to her in a letter I wrote to femme jane and as to Mary Burton I wrote her one letter when i was in Maryland and she wrote me such a sickning answer that I never answered it. I just wrote her a sort of a gassy letter just for picking A all runner I generaly wrote to him once a month but I dont care much about it. So I will quit writing to him I want you to go to concord as often as / you can and give my best respects to all enquireing friends over there
I wrote a letter to Margery not long since and also got one from her. A I expect Jane Robinson will think I am pretty cool for she has wrote me a letter or two I never answered
Dear sister just imagine me now sitting in my tent with knapsacks blankets and dishes scattered around with a board on my knee writing I hear some of the boys say the mail will soon be in in I have been sitting around the post office untill I was tired I think when it does come I will get a letter I think, but oh this is a dreadful cough I have got I expect it will lay me up for a few days yet. Tell lina she must write some to me every time you do and you must write often as you can and write me good long letters too. I am afraid I will not get any letters to day for / I just heard the mail had broke down and I guess they will have to send annother wagon after it. it is pretty near the time to drill and I am afraid I will have to go out maybe the captain will excuse me
Tell rachel she must be a good girl and learn as fast as she can
But I must bring my letter to a close. give my best respects to all write soon So no more at present
