Camp Morton June 16th
 
Dear father I take this opportunity to inform you that I am not very well at present I have been in the hospital one week with the mesles I would have written to you sooner but I was not able I am getting some better I dont expect you can read this i am so weak I joined a company in the 17th regiment was inspected and sworn in to the 3 years service I could have got 30 dollars a month as a teamster but i thought the work would be to hard I like the ranks mighty and I / get back in to them in three days we get our uniform to day Give my love and to all the folks I want Rebecca to go to meeting or singing school every pretty Sunday. Mother must ride when ever she wants to she has the first choice of Jack I am so weak I will have to quit tell uncle milt and John and all the rest of them to rite I would written to all of them but I have not been able for over a week write soon no more at present but rem Yours George W Young
