George W. Young to Amaziah Young, 5 July 1861
Parkersburgh
Virginia July 5th
 
Dear father I take my pen in hand to inform you that I am not as quite as well as I was on the third but I hope you are all well we left cincinnati at three oclock the 4th and got to parkersburgh vir at 11 oclock the 5th I missed the sick car and had to ride in a crowed horse car I had the cramp colic and vomited all night although i feel a great deal better to day / the 15th Ind. regi is expected here to night we are expecting marching orders to go to grafton in 2 or 3 days there is a rumor that 3000 rebels will meet us oh that I was able to march the boys are in fine spirits our hospital is a snug little frame in the back part of town and i am laying in one corner of a room with my heels and the back part of my head up a trying to write as quick as the baggage comes the boys will pitch their tents on a high hill right above us 
 
Mother and the girls must not think too much about me being sick for I think the next time you hear from me I will be most well give my love and best respects to all the folks no more at present
