Ralph Marshall Weston was born on November 16, 1858, in Low Moor, Iowa, to George W. Weston and Emelia Marshall. His father was a farmer who owned $2,500 of real estate and $1,000 of personal property by 1860. His father served in the Union army, and he died on August 18, 1863. His mother died on September 22, 1867. By 1869, he and his younger brother Wendell were living in Vineland, New Jersey, and being raised by Cornelius Campbell. He grew up in Vineland and eventually became a tobacconist. He supported the Republican Party, and he attended local party meetings throughout the 1890s. He died in 1909.
