George W. Weston to Emelia M. Weston, 16 December 1862
Letter #15

Helena Dec 16th 1862

My dearest Emelia
I sent you a letter yesterday but since I mailed it we have been ordered to leave on the 18th and we shall not be likeley to come back to Helena again. I have wrote Mr. Campbell a letter to send with this I am well and strong how I wish I could have one kiss from you before I leave for the field for it would make me better and stronger, but I know I have your blessing, and I will do my duty and be good and pure for you and our dear children. I hope you have not sent the box but I may get it if you have. do not send it if you have not. I wish I could / give you some advice that would help you, but I dont know that I can. Some one must look out for the heifers as they will have calves earley in the spring. I should keep them if I could not get all they are worth for if I live to get home I want plenty of cows. I think you had better get the flax seed from the farm and give the old mare a little and get some Sloans condition powders for her. Have you got the wheat and buck wheat from the farm. I worey about you every day for I know you have many cares but Mr Campbell will help you much God bless him he is a true man. I was glad to get Ralphs letter. tell him his father is fighting for little children like him and if he gets home will have many things to tell him

Trust me Emelia and you shall not be disappointed. forget about the tobacco and say nothing to any one, but write me who told you. I hope you will get this. I shall write again as soon as possible. Direct your letters to Helena till you hear from me to follow the Regiment. I think perhaps it would be best for you to get rid of Mrs D as soon as you can honorabley but you know best. If Dick can get to you he will be of great help but I fear I cannot send him. Be of good cheer my dear Wife and all will be well. I must say good by for the present. my heart is with you God bless you. Ever your own true
George

P.S. If Richard works Kit he must keep her himself. Take her and the old mare down to Mr Tollmans horse in the spring
