Greenville April 12th 1863

My dear Wife
I am am once more on the banks of the Mississippi and whare I can write to you. I shall not write you all about our tripp this time but next time I will write you and Mr Campbell a long letter and tell you all I can about it I would write more now but I have not got rested yet and do not feel like it We marched about 40 miles into the countrey but did not get much of a fight for we could not catch them. We done a good job though in burning corn coton gins mills and driveing away stock of all kinds, besides divouring a great many and what is better still there was over 1000 slaves came back with us of all kinds and colors. I dont know what will be done with them or how long we shall lay here but will write you all in my next. We left camp at Vicksburg April 2nd and got back here on the 10th about night. I received a letter from you soon after we arrived with one enclosed from John and they done me lots of good. I did not feel half as foot sore and tiered after reading them. You ask me about the selling the stock you must do as you think best if I was sure of being at home next winter I should want you to keep them but you must think the matter over and not be in a hurry and do just as you think best. My health is very good but am tiered and foot sore. you must excuse this paper as I had none with me and I found an old blank book in a deserted store here. I hope the baby is better I worey about him. Give my regards to Mr Campbell and all other friends. My commission has come but I want you to direct my letters just as you always have done. I send you some flowers.

Ever your own true husband   George
