Camp Reno Breshear City La May 8th/63
 
                        Dear Lib I will try and write a few lines to day and let you know how I am geting along well dear I am geting along very well with the exception of very hard cold I dont know as I ever had sotch a hard cold in my life I have takeing my drawers of and I think that is the reason of my cold you know I allwayes cout cold when I took my drawers of in the spring I have to stop writeing and blow my nose so often that I cant write motch we had a big male came in the other day and the boat was waiting to take the male up to the reg and I did not get eny male bot probly abe will take care of my letters and send them to me as quick as he can it made me feal bad to think I could not get your letters bot if I was with the reg I could not write to you and know I can write evry day so I guess it is jest as well. I wrote a long letter to rosallia I sent the letter to you that Ledgard wrote to me and when I wanted to write to Ledgard I forgot the comp that he belonged to so I had to rite to rosailia and I told her to send the letter to Ledgard and I sent her a paper to I wrote a sheet and a half dear lib I got a letter from the first male that was sent up to the reg / I could not make out ho it was from bot I looked at it a good while and I found Hill in it so I made up my mind it was from norm and so it was he is a affle poor writer I will send the letter to you he ses that elisher wants to get his dishcarge and he told him that he would not get it untill jef daveis give it to him I think that norm is to blame for elisher would not went if it had not ben for norm dear Lib I shal close this letter the day of my berth the 11 day of may I dont know as you will think eny thing abought it the day I am 22 years of age bot I guess you will for you can remember better then I can I have forgot when your berth day was and nets to and dear I wish you would write and tell mee and then dear I will try and remember if I could be to home the day of my berth I would have a dance bot I will injoy it as well as I can and the next day of my berth we will have a time I have ben over to the deepo and I see too boats come in loaded with suger and cotten what piles of sugar and cotten there is on the dock our men has made a clean swep this time I guess I wont write eny more to day so good by dear Lib

May 9 dear Lib I will write you a few lines more I feal very well to day and I hope these few lines will find you the same I poot my drawers on last night I will keep / them on a spell know Generl Faragot was hear this morning and I went over and see him he is abought 60 years of age fool face his hare his abought half gray good looking and abought five foot and six inches he wore a china cap he took the cares and went to new orleans and we give him three chears and three times three he run the batries at port hodsen and our men has got on to redriver so he come down this way our men is dooing a big thing I think we will have port hodsen and vicksburg in six weakes. they are recruteing darkes here very fast there is a recruting office on this ground hear and it is fun they make them run a foot race and jomp and there is lots of them coming in evry day It is very lonsome here I had rather be with the reg if I thought I could stand it bot I know I could not I dont know bot some of the boyes will think I am trying to play of bot I went with the boys as far as there was eny danger I dont think our reg will see eny more fighting on this march because we was in the advanse all the way bot know our boys is poot clear behind the Generls thought that our generl was geting to motch oner so they poot him behind I think he is the smartest / Generl there is in this department I wont except Banks I love him as I would a father I have told you his name before he is a german desent Weitzel I think evry thing of him this is all I will write to day good by dear Lib

May the 10 Sunday Dear Lib I will write a few more lines to day I dont feal very well to day we had to moove our tents last night and I worked to hard I havent got no strength yet it takes a man a good while hear to get his strength after he is once run down I most be more carefol bot I like to see things moove I havent herd eny knews dear lib I opend my can of strawberis last night and o how good they are I have eat out of them three times and I guess one therd of them is gone I dont know bot they will hert mee what wont hert a man oup there will kill a man down hear give him the direa bot dear I will be carefool I dont know what I will doo when I get my stof all eat that you sent to me I guess you had better send me another box I have herd of a cheaper way to send boxes you can express them to new york to D H Tomkins and he will / will forward them right on by transport and it wont cost only jest what it cost to express them to new york if you have got eny sauce or dried frute so you can send a small box I would like it I want you to pick all the strawberis and black beris you can and by shugare and do them up I cant believe that botter would keep unless you poot it in cans and seald it up botter is 60 cents a pound and poor at that dear wright to me and tell me what you think abought it if you have got eny dried frute you mite as well send it to me and get more when it comes my apetite is very poor and I dont know what I would do if it want for my sauce and botter I think of you evry time I take a mouth fol of them how good you are to me and think of the time when we picked the strawberies I wish I could be there to help you pick this sumer bot I can not I will finish this letter to morow the 11th 22 years of my age I persume you are thinking abought it so good day dear L C Hakes May the 11. Dear Lib I will try and finish this letter to day and I / told you I would I guess I have ben long anough a writing it bot I thought I would not finish ontill I was 22 years of age I dont know as I ever minded my berth day before bot my life is geting sweet to me and I realize it more then I ever did if I was to home to day we would go on the hill and have a good time bot seeing I haint there I hope you will think of it dear Lib there haint no knews to day of eny acount only our men is in alxendry I guess I will write to kate to day I recieved one from her the 9 of ap as we crosed the bay to berwick City I stay in the capt tent with another felow by the name of riley Russell he lives in richburg up from scio he has got a famly he youse to work for glowder folks quite a while a go he is abought 40 years of age and a fine man dear lib I guess you nead not send the box till I can hear from you agane wright what you think abought it wright what you will do with the money the is owing me in wellsville dear lib wright often from your tru and loving Hosbond with lots of kisses to his dear wife Lib
