My Dear Wife I will start a letter to you to you day and let you know how I am geting along I am dooing well as can be expected my foot is dooing well bot I haint got no strength I cant bar my heft on my left foot yet I was so ron doon when I come here that I haint got my strength yet and I have got the rumaties in my right foot and the pane bothers me a goodeal I sepose dear Lib you have heard that port hodson is takeing bot it has ben kep affle still hear and I will tell you what for the rebs that we drove from brashear City in to texas come back and took brashear City and I sepose evry thing our reg had is burnt up all of my things is gone I think more of your pictures than all of the wrest I took them with me the first time I went on the march when I come back to brashear City sick I left them and I am very sory well dear Lib Weitzell went down by hear in the night / night and we have herd that he has took the hol force five thousand and seven hondard we are pooting down treeson purty fast hear dear Lib we have made a big hale here and vicksburg not les then forty thousand we have heard that richmond was takeing dear Lib if that is so rebeldom dont mount to motch we haint got eny papers in a good while the rebs had the river they fired into our boats and they could not ron as quick as port hodson was takeing we cleaned them out dear Lib I was looking at that curl of nets hare this morning and it looks nice it is jest as it was when you don it up dear Lib I will send you the reply to the bony blou flag I persume you have herd it bot it is a affle good song we youse to sing it up to port hodson and the rebs would sing the bony blow flag and then we would sing John Brown and the star spangel / baner you can let rozillia take that song if she dont know it all ready I think a goodeal of them dear Lib I have jest takeing a potion of salts and my mouth tasts affly I think I will get my male purty soon I have wrote to [?] if he gets my letter o if I could get your letters I could pass of the time so motch better dear I think a goodeal of this pen I could sell it for more then you give for it if I would sell it bot I will go hungry a good while before I will sell it I am tired out and I will write a little more after diner and tell you what we have for diner we dont live so good here as they do to some of the hospitals we allwayes have soop for diner so good by it is after noon dear Lib we had kind of rice soop and bread our bread is affle poor I dont think it was quite as good as soop as my dear wife could get up for me if I was to home o how I wish I could / go down in to mothers saller and get a bole of milk dear Lib that is what I want bot I live in hopes to see the time when I can injoy sotch plesure and that soon dear I dont see how this rebellion can last long hear we have got the mississippi open that cuts them off from texas and this state and the too best states there is in rebeldom and know they are cut right off they have got all of thear living from texas for 18 months and I think dear Lib that evry thing is working good. keep up good curege and I think you have I will finish this letter in the morning good by dear Lib. Good morning Dear Lib there is nothing knew this morn the rumaties is a going to bother me I think I took another dost of salts this morn there was some officers wife in here last night she was dredfol polite dear Lib give my love to mother and father and to the girles and all of my friends and except this from your dearest hosbond to my tru and loving wife with lots of kisses Loel C Hakes
