William W. Williams to Eliza R. Lewis, 31 January 1865
Radnor; January the 31, 65.
Dear Lib.
I will now try to reply to your letter which came to hand about ten days ago I am considerably puzaled to know what to say you wished me to write soon I should have wrote sooner but I have ben trying to arive at some conclusion as to the time for that little affair. that house is rather airy as you say it only being roofed yett I had intended to have it ready to daub and the room ready to plaster by March but I have ben disapointed the winter has ben so cold and snowy that I could get nothing done to it I have got every thing ready for it I have decided to have a cellar / under the addition part I thought you was so used to a cellar that I best to have one and I would be rather lost my self without one it will be small but it will better than none atall. I have the stone and lime ready hauled and the lumber is ready and I have brick for a chimney or fire place. I will have a small seting room and a bedroom the fire place will be in the seting room I will make a porch on one side of the house and borde up one end so as to put the cook stove in it in the summer. well as soon as it brakes up I want to put it up if I cant get it all done before the time I will get the log or kitchen part ready so I supose we can get along in that until the rest is finished / that is if you think that you can get along with one room for 3 or 4 weeks. well as to the time I dont know what to say I wish you had decided that. I supose it had better be in march or else not till the last of May or first of June as in April and the first part of May the crops will have to be put in and in order to have the moon right as you say it will have to be about the last of March if it is in march at all. Well I will leave it to you whether we have it the last of march or the first of April or to have it after corn planting I think it would be as well after corn planting / only for your garden. I supose I could start it but I fear it would not amount to much without you was thare to boss the job and still I supose you we could do without a garden for one season. after saying all this I will say set the time yourself as I shall be busy all the time this summer and might as well have it one time as another except in corn planting. I am so busy I have it semes a thousand things to do getting things for this house and one thing and the other. Mary Sams wife sayes you must let her know in time to get two new dresses and make them lib try and set some time and write soon all are well write soon Bill
