Camp Near Jackson Miss
 
Dear Father
I am one time more permited the opportunity of droping you afew lines in which you will find that I am well greatley hoping these lines may com safe to hand and find you all well I recived three letters from you the weak befor we started to Miss and had wrote a letter to send to you and when I found that we was a going to move I never mailed it. we started last sunday was a weak ago last sunday we com threw ga. by Maryetta and atlanta and then threw Ala by Mundgumary and Mobile and threw the corner of Fla and on to Jackson Miss we com here to reinforce gen Jonson in this fight the fight has not com off yet that is the main fight there is fighting a going on here every day we expect to move on to Vixburg in a few days that is 46 miles west of this / where our men has ciled severel thousand yankes in the last weak or two
 
well ther is the best corn crop in Ala that I ever saw and the lower part of ga is doing fine but Mississippi is not much I tell you nor it never was. there is nothing low hot swampey paraies and I would give any thing for a drank of water out of Lee Britains mill pon or even out of the road in a wet time.
 
I was elected third Lieut the 15th of May and past the examination and is now a Lieut in the same Co that I was in tell the children that I would like to se them all very well So no more at present
