Daulton Ga Dec 3d 1863
 
Dear Father
                        I take the present opportunity of droping you a few lines by which you will learn that I am tolerable well I have got a pain in my side I received your letter yesterday and was glad to hear from you I was in the fight at Mishenary Ridge on the 25 of last month there is 8 men missing from my Co. one of them is R. J. Whitaker and I cannot tell wherther he was killed or wounded any way he is in the hands of the enemy he was all threw the the fight tell the order to retreat and I have not saw nor hearn any thing of him since if the Brigade on our left had a fought like ours the yankees would not a taken the Ridge I dont think. the army has falen back to Daulton Ga and I expect will make a stand here it is report that General Bragg / has tenderd his resignation I do not know wherther it is so or not
 
if there is any cance I will try to come home by chrismus tho I dont know wherther there will be any cance or not but if there is I will come
 
I want you all to write to me and write soon and often Direct your letter to Daulton Ga 60th N.C. Regt. Reynolds Brigade So I will close hoping to hear from you soon
