Dalton Ga Febuary 21 1864
Dear Father
I have received no letter from you since I was at home and Lieut Cooper is agoing to start home to knite and I will send these few lines by him. it will not be long till the spring campaign is opend and they are sending troops from here to Mobile Ala and I expect we will have to go soon the 56 NC Regt staked there arms this morning they said they dio not have any thing to eat they said they would not tuch them untill they got something to eat and they were not a surfering at all they drawn as much rations as the 60 did and had several boxes from home besides and I know that the 60th had plenty. So the 60th was formed by order of Col Hardy and marched in to the camp of the 56 and arrested them and made them take there arms and go on inspection. if they had not a went there would a been pretty hard times here for a while
I received a letter from Nancy C Childress last thursday they was all well I want you to write to me as soon as you can you can tell Mrs Whitaker that I wrote a letter her but I do not know wherther she received it or not. I saw in the knoxville regester a list of the prisoners taken at mishanary ridge and it said that J J Whitaker Co C 60th NC died at Chattanooga 17 January but they must a made a mistake I supose it was R J Whitaker in the place of J.J.
