April 9^th 1864

 

Miss—M    I still have an other opportunity of writing you a few lines informing you I am as well as common hoping ever this nite may be so fortunate to find you well. I have not had an opportunity of writing you for some time previously on the account of having no communication I hope you will see the reason why I did not write you sooner I have herd some rumers that you wer declining the idea of our former engagement if so I wish you to inform me of it an early day as possible / If it is not so as for my part I am just the same never expect to flinch from my contracts without some very good reason you need not fear me declining or getting indifferent towards you for I could not without a great reason on my part I would be very glad to see you you could not know the pleasure it would give me I hope to have that opportunity some day not very far distant I do not know when I will get home but I hope it will not be long / Then I can tell you a good many things concerning the past I will have to close this very [?] note by asking you to write me soon give me the health of you and family and people in generall

 

I close for the present by asking you to write me soon forward by the first chance to me I remain as ever your devoted Lover
