Dear aunt
I take the first opportunity of writing you a few lines to let you know that we are well at this time though we have all had the fever Brother John died [paper hole] oct last after the painful illness of 31 days I was down 30 days and pa was down about 25 days times are hard here corn ten dolars per bushl wheat 20 pork $2 per pound, the yankees been all throug here and destroyed nearly every thing they have burned the Roswell Factory and Marietta & Atlanta & several other places / as it happened they did not injure us any they shot at James twice but did not hit him. he has never been in camp but one month he belongs to the Malitia there has several of the neighbours died lately old Billy Harris was found dead in the edge of camp creek he was drinking liquor [paper hole] the cause of it.
I received a letter from capt Patton last march which informed that cousin Henry got killed on the 25th of Feb last give my love and best respects to aunt Mary and write to us adress me at Alphrett Ga via Gainsville Ga
