Rodney R. Cooke
Rodney R. Cooke was born on February 26, 1832, in Ohio to Laura Cooke. His father probably died sometime before 1850. The family lived in Clinton, Ohio, and he worked as a teacher and farm laborer. He married Chloe Williams on May 24, 1860, and their daughter Luella was born around 1862.

He enlisted in the Union army on February 22, 1864, and he mustered in as a private in Company G of the 57th Ohio Infantry. The regiment took part in the Atlanta campaign, the March to the Sea, and the Carolinas campaign. He mustered out on June 27, 1865.

He returned to Clinton after the war, and he earned a living as a cattle broker. In March 1867, he received an appointment as a postmaster. By 1870, he owned $1,200 of real estate and $1,500 of personal property. He suffered from “spinal disease,” and he applied for a federal pension in October 1875. He died on October 28, 1886.
