Snowing—At 12M embark on the Gen Buell bound for Louisville. As the boat is not crowded we have good bunks, but have to depend on the deck hands for grub Weather cloudy and cold

Morning finds us at Louisville Ky. Debark and go into quarters at City Baracks. Have bread water & molasses for dinner & supper The Barracks are crowded & lousy very disagreeable place to stop

Have lain all day at Clarksville waiting for gun boats to escort us over the shoals. Afternoon suspicious persons seen on the south side of the river Artillery shells the woods for two hours
