This morning finds us at 30 miles below Cincinnati we past Matison half past 11 oclock morn we landed the fleet on an Isleland above Louisvill opposite Jefersonvill Ind

This morning the fleet is liing at the 2 stand above Louisvill we drew our money yesterday
 
our fleet moved down below the falls about 4 miles to Portland here we joind annother fleet of tenn boats and expect more before we leave here

To day we are laying at the warfe at Portland Ky the 89th got new gunns they are Springfield Rifles the Soldiers have a hard great time to night whiskey a board

This morning I waked up found my self self moving down the river we landed at Connelton Indiania at 12 here the fleet took on coal this is a nice plaice there is a large cottin factry here

This morning still at Conelton Ing Ind I went up to the Cotton factory I was interrested there was about 300 girles and 150 boys
 
we started from there at one oclock got to Evensville Ind at 9 oclock night only 15 minits then on down we had some good singing

This
morning finds us entering the mouth of the Cumberlin River about daylight. this river puts me in mind of the Knawha
we have 5 Gunn Boats with us before we got
 
                                                           
 
to Fort Donelson we heard that they wer fighting there
we arived there at 10 oclock they fighting had ceast we came up with our fleet and the gunn boats they found out where the Rebles lay so we commence throwing shells in among them the fleet landed at the fort I went to bead

This morning I found that the fleet had moved up about a two miles a little above Dover we found out that there had bin quite a battle our loss was 15 killed and 60 wonded there was 150 ove the Rebles left dead on the field and some wonded took 40 prisners
            the Rebs loss is about 300

This morning Com F was sent out on Picket the snow was 4 inch deep and a verry cold day
found some more Rebles killed the No killed amount to now all togather is 250 our Gun Boats don good work

This morning finds us moving up the Cumberland River we past Clarksville last knight at 1 oclock that is where the RR croses the river this morning we are 40 miles from Nashvill now about 25 mi below Nashvill ther is a Rock at the ege of the of the river 300 or 400 ft high birds have there nest in it we got at Nashvill at 4 oclock eavning

Sunday we are liing at the warfe Nashville Tenise there seames to be a great deal ove excitement
I saw some ove my friends Soldiers to day Nashvill dose not make a good appearance on the river there is some nice mansions back from the river on the RR that leads to Mofforbourough there is a nice contry

This morning orders came for us to march this was the 17 day that I have bin on the river we marched 3 miles South off Nashville on the Mofforsbourgh Franklin RR we are in a nice camp in a woods paster the day is cloudy but warm

last knight we had a little rain. to day it raned a little I walk around out side off the camp up on a little raise I never looked on a finer contry I found a famly grave yard I read the enscriptions on the stones there was off the Tompson famly

I took a walk out from camp the Birds sang so swetly as thoe there was no war I looked around and could sea camp for miles around

To day is the first Sunday that I have spent on land in tenisee

Last night we had an annother rany nite of night of it this morning still raining we are not making any move to martch the camp is a disagreeable plaice when it rains and espesly when we have no stoves in our tents we have no Hospital tent of any count we send our sick to Nashville

Last night the boat crost the river 5 of us boys took a walk out to a little town back ¼ of a mile from the river a nice place it was but the inhabitance we could not sea many of them we also saw great embankments throwed up where the old supntion bridge was or back from there

The fleet started at 1 oclock we had some nice music when we started The Reble prisners that was in the Nashvill Jail clost to the river they would cuss us abilitions so on we went this is an odd river the banks are verry high this is a fine contry nice cenery

Last night we had somthing over 100 out on picket they wer cald in about daylight then on we went sailing up the beautiful Cumberland this river does not get any smaller we are up 300 miles we do not know yet where we are going Stopt about 15 miles below Carthage here the fleet took on rails to burn there coal is going
 
                                                           
 
short then on we went this river has nice banks there is no hills the land all seames to be roleing some of the prettiest cedar noles that I ever saw
not many whites to be sean but a great many negroes they would run to the bank wave there hats and aprons it was quite laughable The fleet stoped at 11 oclock to night to lay up for the night

This morning finds us tied up by the side of a corn field

This morning we came to a crook in the river ran in an east corst and then almost a west
I saw some high rocks strait soar up from the water ege had the apearance of being large caves in them

This morning all rite we have had a day or to of rain this morning nice and clear and pleasant we hear this morning we hear that the rebs has bin here there was 100 past through day before yesterday
we heare that they are still presing in the citizens we are unloading the boats

This morning Com F and Co C wer sent on a scout up the Cumberland River on a boat and to bring a barge load of rails we went about 14 miles there we came to a nice larg plantation with a fence 11 rails high we spoilt the looks of this farm we was expectting some dificulty as we went up so we was looking out for brakers we spied a fiew on top of a hill we halted the boat
 
                                                           
 
and here came three conscripts we inquired of them they told us they knew of no soldiers up on the hill but we told them that we saw more than three
 
So we took those three and made them go with us to the top of the hill So up we went but could not find no Soldiers but about 12 wimman and children after we got our rails we went sailing down the river got at Carthage 7 oclock then to camp

last night was a coald night I went to the Hospital to sea the sick
Jack Simmons is there he is now better he has bin there three days I feal uneasy about him
The pickets have verry strict orders to shoot all that look sopitoaus and the sentinal to be hid from view there is good many spies passing around camp

three out of a Reg there was 40 of the 11th Ohio went along to gard the train they had not got far from camp say 2 miles
there was 150 Cav dash on to them wonded three and took the train and all them prisners that is a heavy loss to our bregad that is what we have lost by not having a force of Cavalry here at this point there was 4 Com of the 56th Ohio started to there relief

Co. F. A. D. I., 89th on bord of the gun boat and Delawra going up the river about 40 miles on a scout to get corn and wheat we arived at the place at 4 oclock. the gunn boat went up to 2 miles after the wheat Co I abord of her we commence taking on corn place out pickets on both side of the river Capt Leeds and 35 of us boys went acrost the river to guard that side about 9 oclock we wer attacted
 
                                                           
 
with about 500 Rebs we retreated to the river and called for the boat to come after us for we would be taken
the boat was some time getting started and by that time the Rebs had formed a line of battle on top of the banks we wer beneath them pasing it to them they past it to them us but they could not hit us. the boat was about the midle of the river the Commander orderd them to fire on the boat they fired sever volies
 
                                                           
 
at the boat the boat got alarmed and put up the river.
Capt Leeds gave orders to retreat up the river only half heard the command so we 15 lay there coincid part of the rebs took around the road to head Capt and the boys
Capt hailed the boat as it came down and got on bord the gunn boat shelled the woods as it came down
Some shell fell clost to us the boat came down to where we was and call to us but thought we wer taken prisners we got abord but
 
                                                           
 
two of our boys was misen we crost the river and slept all night

Thing seames all quiet this morning we went out on deck and saw our two lost boys on the bank had them and some blankets and lost guns brought over. we spied some rebs on top of a hill acrost the river Cap Brown fired at them
 
                                                           
 
from that the rebs fired about fifty gunns the bullets flew thick around us we gave fore or five volies with a double charge of powder mad them dodge then gunn boat fire several volies at them whitch made them scadadle Started down the river about 10 oclock Shell the woods for 4 miles we done considerable forging going down we got 400 bu of wheat 800 of corn and great deal of poltry got back to camp about 8 oclock

The 89th 36th 11th Ohio started on a scout after the Rebs. went Rome here we hear that they the other side of Rome about a mile wating for us we huried on but could not find them went back to Rome and camp for the night had a hard time to get water to make coffey had to clime down the rocks to the river

Started about day light on our march for Midelton got there about 9 oclock here we found the Rebs and scurmish about 5 hours found out the Rebs had a piec or two of cannon and a large force of calvary Cavalry one of the 11th Ohio was wonded that Regt came nie being surounded we retreated in good order about 3 miles here we campt for the night a deserter came to our lines Sent orders to Gen Crook to know what

Fine morning I do wish that we could git a mail feal lost with out the newes and letters. one Division crost the river had to waid it up to there waist then came a hard rain the river raised Our Division went back and got on annother road where there was a bridge got there at 4 oclock camp for the night

and all that is in and the great victory in the east Lee is badly whip 20,000 kill 20,000 prisners and in hot hast after the rest of them. Meigs commanding our forces
Gen Roceycrans had each Battery fire a salute of 34 gunns that maid a roaring in old Tenn Camp mooved 2 miles
