George Day
George Day was born on May 25, 1839, in Maine. He enlisted in the Union army on August 28, 1862, and he mustered in as a private in Company D of the 11th Maine Infantry. The regiment took part in the siege of Charleston and the siege of Petersburg. He was promoted to corporal in October 1864 and to sergeant in February 1865. He mustered out on June 20, 1865.
 
He lived in Kennebunkport, Maine, after the war, and he married Eliza J. Russell. They had at least two children: William, born around 1874; and Grace, born around 1879. He applied for a federal pension in September 1883 and eventually received one. He died in Kennebunkport on July 11, 1889.
