I was down to Uncle Josephs to day took a buggy ride to Kendallville in the evening

August,            Monday, 26,                1861.
Did not doe much to day thinking about volunteering almost all day went up to Mr Rubos and Mr Shattucks to Uncle Jessees in the Co.
 
Tuesday, 27.
Made up my mind to serve my country bid good bye to Uncle Jessees and Uncle Christians folks Mr Blacks Porters [?] going to Albion to morrow
 
Wednesday, 28.
I went too [?] camp an had a gootime andwas [?]

September,      Sunday, 1,                   1861.
At the Lutherian church to Sabbat school going to go to Fort Wayne to morrow if no prevealing providence I am bound to stay with a girl to night if I can
 
Monday 2.
I star this morning and we stoped at Swe[?] and elected our officers and partook of a splendid dinner and arived in camp Allen about sundown
 
Tuesday, 3.
We arainged our quarters and were sworn in to service of the state and that was doing well for one day

September,      Wednesday, 4, 1861.
we have have been on drill as for my self I com on guard today for the first time and find it more plesant than I expected
 
Thursday, 5.
thursday we are on drill today six hours

we are on drill today

September,      Saturday, 7,                 1861.
Drill without any varyation
 
Sunday, 8.
todays duty is changed and we are very busy we had two sermons one in the forenoon and one in the afternoon and four hours drill
 
Monday, 9.
we were all excitement today the Adjutent said we would be mustered into servis today but in the evening it was discovered that the Inspector did not come

September,      Tuesday, 10                 1861.
Today we were surprised by a visit from the ladys and it was a real pleasure to meet the girls from Jeferson in the evening there was almost a meeting in camp on account of pay
 
Wednesday, 11.
We had an alarm this evening a man was brought in wounded that had deserted and report said that his friends were going to rescue him but it was false
 
Thursday, 12.
this day has been ocupyed in drill one Company that was not full was disbanded and the men scattered in the evening a Sermon from the Rev D Weaver Battist

September,      Friday, 13,                   1861.
to day another company arived and they were quartered in the citty and there is another due tomorrow we have adressed this evening by Plants & Jones
 
Saturday, 14.
It rained this forenoon and we did not drill Dress parade at 6 PM orders of the day tomorrow read on parade I was on guard and it was very disagreeable with the rain
 
Sunday, 15.
it raining has interfered with the orders of the day but there was Divine servis in the afternoon and another company come into camp and was recieved by those that were here

September,      Monday, 16,                1861.
More rain today there was a flag presented to the Warsaw Compt with apropriate remarks the inspector is here and at his work
 
Tuesday, 17.
It rained and our quarters are muddy but we have made an improvement by scattering sand
 
Wednesday 18.
we are not yet mustered in and I do not know why today is clear and the usual rotund of duty is gon through with

September,      Thursday, 19,              1861.
this morning at 4 oc there was a man died in the hospital of Tifoid fever he was from Waterloo drill as usual
 
Friday, 20.
drill as usual the funeral of that man was attended to in milatary order it is the first death in this regiment
 
Saturday, 21.
this morning is wet & cold Sam Foster was in camp today two of our Company deserted this morning S Wigant & Wm Hogland the officers are after them

September,      Sunday, 22,                 1861.
the deserters was brought back last and it was discovered that another had run first Lieut went and feched him back we had the articles of war read this morning
 
Monday, 23.
Drill as usual I was on guard today there is a great commotion in camp about being mustered into the servis
 
Tuesday, 24.
at last we are mustered into the servis of the United States and we will be uniformed this week there was some three refused to take the oath and drumed out

we were organized into regiment and we are Compt F. that gives us the 2nd to the right of the regiment 30th Ind Voluntiers Militia
 
Thursday, 26.
stood guard for S monroe he was let off on furlow
 
Friday, 27.
We drew our blankets they are not very good and they are white and will get so dirty and we cannot get them collored

September,      Saturday, 28,               1861.
we recieved marching orders last night and all is excitement today
 
Sunday, 29.
stand guard for self today expect to march tomorrow morning camp is crouded with visitors there is as many as 25 hundred pople here
 
Monday, 30.
our men cannot be got in from furlow and march is delayed til wednesday morning

October,          Tuesday, 1,                  1861.
prepared for marching and had Battallion drill twice today
 
Wednesday, 2.
we started this morning for the Capitol and after a rough ride for the cars we arived after dark at the City and marched out to camp
 
Thursday, 3.
we find ourselves in camp robison this morning camped in tents and everything at wrong ends so much for that we have been all day fixing up

October,          Friday, 4,                     1861.
we are all well satisfied now and have drawen some of our uniform and it has rained some today
 
Saturday, 5.
we are yet drawing uniform and it is yet raining and camp is gitting muddy we have orders to draw arms for four Comp'ny
 
Sunday, 6.
A. F. B & G companies have drawn Enfield rifles today and that makes us crow as report says that the others have to take muskets they are to get them tomorrow perhaps

our company is now uniformed and armed except havlocks and knapsacks
 
Tuesday, 8.
today we are on the usual duty of camp and have lots of fun drilled on double quick found it hard work run about 1½ miles and gave out
 
Wednesday, 9.
recieved orders to march at 3 oc PM and packed up and off for Kentuck at 6 oc AM on the I & Louisvile rr all in good spirits

October,          Thursday, 10,              1861.
arived at Jefersonville at 3 oc AM and crossed the ferry to Louisville at 9 AM and was recieved with demonstrations of joy started for Nolin at 12 oc PM arived at 6 PM and passed over some buteful country
 
Friday, 11.
went into camp Nevin wet and hungry as it rained all night and we could not get up our tents report says that we are within 23 miles of the enimy that is good
 
Saturday, 12.
usual drill today two regiments drill one from Ind the other from Ohio there is a grand gard placed outside of camp

drill in the forenoon Divine servis in the afternoon Cool sent out on grand guard in the evening post 1 mile from camp
 
Monday 14.
night passed without any trouble the night was cold but clear rather exciting being the first relieved at dark
 
Tuesday, 15.
the usual camp duties a man died this morning in Co I from palepatation of the heart was buried in the evening

was on guard today weather good a great many reports about the enimy but not reliable
 
Thursday, 17.
last night a man was brought in from grand guard that was shot dead in mistake by another sentinel he belonged to Co H rained all day
 
Friday 18.
the wether cleared off but the camp is nothing but a mud hole

Cleaned up armes and camp for sunday had dress parade at 5 oc PM
 
Sunday, 20.
inspection of arms in the morning struck tents and dried the ground preaching at three piched tents dress parade at 5 PM
 
Monday, 21.
mooved camp about 300 yds east so as frm Brigade spent all day tired of it

drill as usual Dress parade in the evening under the presance of Brig Gen Wood our Brig General on guard today
 
Wednesday, 23.
on grand guard today stationed in the woods along Nolin River
 
Thursday, 24.
returned to camp this morning and drilled in the afternoon dress parade as usual
