this morning found me at Uncle Johns at the ushering in of the new year the onley new years that I have spent at home or on my native soil for four years I am having a good time her the wind is very raw and cold all day I left there at 3 PM and went down to Cousin Stephen and stade thare til after super then I started to the oister super at Mr John Fosters ariving thare in good time we had a good time thare thare was som sixty that ate super thar we cep it up til after midnight a having a good time till one oclock when we ajourned for this time have to meat again some place elce how difernt to me to what I am youst to

this morning I dident gow to school in the four knoon I went over to Uncle Jesse Axtells and colected one doler in money for my sister then after diner I helped Uncl Chris git up wood and git redy to butcher and in the evening went with my sister down to Mr John Milers She is a gow gowing to work thare. I then come back home and had a good chil caut at night all goes well with me the wether is cold this morning I got very cold a coming home

this morning I got up very erly and helped dew up the choers and then helped Uncle butcher in the four knoon after diner I got redy and went to town of K a foot and alone thare I went to the barber shop and got fixed up then I went to Mr N Bixlers whare I got super and had an interduction to Mrs J W Bixler Miss Hatta and Walas Bixler after super we went to the Mite societ thar I had a good time thare is a great deal of amusement thare it was thare that I met one of my army corespondence I think she is a very nice young young Lady. at 11 PM I went to the Depot and took the 12 oclock train a gowing west

I arived at Legonier at 1 AM all safe and sound I then went to a Hotel to stay the rest of the night but couldent git a bed so I layed my fraim down in the bar room and slep til morn. I then got my breckfast and then started out in the country to Mr S M Redmans 5 miles from town ariving thare at 8 AM. it has been a trying to snow all day & night but it is to cold to [faded] it tride to snow all day but it was to cold to make mutch out I went to meting at night at the hen peck School house Mr Carter pretended to preach

I staid all night at Mr S M Redmans and started to Legonier at half past 9 AM ariving at the depot in time to take the 11 oclock and 37 minets train agowing east ariving at Wawaka at 12M whare I stoped at Mr Andrew Curry that after knoon I also viseted Ben Currys School I think he keepes a good school and tries to lern his scholers after school I went home with the teacher to Springfield whare I stade all night with William Curry I had a very good time a viseting my old friends how diferent I am engaged a great deal diferent it was it is to day to what I have been youst to for the last four years

this morning I left Springfield and went to Wawaka for the 12 oclock train a gowing east I got on the train and arived at Kendallville all right I thare got oisters and crackers for an oister super then I come out home with Davis Black to his house then I had to cary my things home from thare at home at 4 PM then I don up the feeding and at night went down to Hills School house to a lectur on helth it was very good the wether raw and cold

this morning it is a trying to rain and sleet but cant quite make it out I helped do the feeding then I fixed the box on the bob sled and git redy to gow a sleying this evening. I went to school this four knoon and staid till after arithmatick clas had recited ther lesen then I got excused and went home it comensed raining this after knoon but I got redy and went to Kendallville with the team after Miss Sarah and Gussie Meck Miss Hatte Bixler and Mr Walas Bixler to take them to my oister super I got back home in good time with them but it rained all the way thare and back thare was 45 here for super we had a good time if the wether is bad without

I started to take my friends home at half past 12M. we had cept the party up till that time I took the spring wagon to take them home in it rained all the way on us but we had the umberelias with us. it was half past 4 when I got home and the horses put away and atended to I got upp about 8 oclock and ate my breckfast and helped do the feeding and then went to school but I dident lern mutch thare school houers past very well onley that I wanted to sleep it keep thawing and raining all day. at night thare was meeting at Mt Plesent and the girles wanted I should gow with them of corse I went with them but sleep a part of the time

this morning it is froze and the road is a glair of ice so that it is hard giting around. Aunt wanted me to gow over to Mr Bells with her tharefore I went and then from thare I went to Mr Ogels to see them the first time in almost five years. I was back to Mr Bells in time to gow home with Aunt we got home at 4 oclock I helped do the feeding and then went to meeting they had a good time

this morning we went to Church church as usial in good time thare was a cold raw wind all day brother Foss preached a good sermon from the sixth chapt and 9 verse of Galations at half past ten oclock this AM. after meeting I went home to set around thare until night and then gow to church again all past off smothley thare the church was crouded brother Foss adresed the congregation again from the tenth chapter and 42nd verse it was a good sermon well do I remember the 1st time that I heard this text preached from it brings back to my memory the time when I first gave my name to the Methodis Church near elevon years ago since that time I have been a very weeked young man may God forgive me

this morning I started to school and got as fair as blacks thare John and Peter wanted to gow to meeting and that I should gow with them and I went with them I thare made a brake from the world to git back in the way I should gow and to fulfill my vows to God. we had a good meeting. wel this morning found me at Buterfields and it had been a snowing I ate breckfast thair and then went to meeting after meeting was out I went to Mr Shattucks to make them a call I had a good time their I got diner thair and while thair it turned cold and comensed blowing so that we are having a real snow storm. then in the after knoon I cald on my Gussie Meck thare I had a good time then a short time before car time I went to the depot to gow to wawaka but the storm was so bad that the cars was four houers behind time and when they did come was an houer and twenty minets a runing to wawaka when thair I went to Mr A Currys and stoped for the night it is very cold

this morning found me at the same place I was yesterday morning I got upp and come home and ate breckfast at home then got redy to gow to Albion to the donation I and Frank went over to Mr Blacks and went with them up thare thar was four teams went up to gether all loaded with provision and horse fead we had a good time at brother barnets and got our diner thare after diner I went up town with the girels then I renewed the search for Miss Mattie Bloom but all to no avail so I orderd my team out and started for Springfield to find her when I got thare I found whare she was and then started back to Albion and found her but she could not leave whare she was at work I then went down to Uncle Johns and got super and James Henderson went to W Ealys and back thare til 9 oclock making 30 miles since 3 oclock it has been thawing all day

this morning found me at Uncle John Barhans after breckfast I got my team out and hitched upp and went to Albion to leave it whare I got it. after I got red of the team I went to se Mattie again and had a short conversation with her. I then went to the shoo shop and got my boot patched and masure taken for a new pare of boots I then started home and got down to Samuel Edwardes and stoped thare till after diner when I again renewed my journey toward home ariving at home at 3 PM all safe I saw Dan Chiles and Louisa Ogle on the road and neather one of them knew me it thawed all last night and to day the sleighing is spilt for this time I never knew the snow to gow off as fast as it has yesterday and today at nigh and after super I and Uncle seteld up so that we would know how we stood

this morning I got on the train at Kendallville at half past twelve M on the road to the fair west we got along finley and at seven oclock got off the train at Chaugo Ill thare we had to change depots I got into the onmibus and went to the wells st Depot thare I took the cars at fifteen minets after eight for Mechanicsville Iowa. the country in Ill is to low and wet to soot me but when we got into Iowa it is more roling and beter the onley troubel I se is not enoughf timber. the train arived at my stoping place a little before seven PM I dident have any troubel to find my friends and them in resenbel good health the wether is fine and plesent all things goes well

wel this morning our breckfast was worse than our super and was not half enoughf. the ground frose some last night and thare was a cold raw wind a blowing we was out on the road by sevon oclock AM the old man acused some of us for steeling his halters wel let that be as it may I am clear. we made good hedway we traveled 15 miles and stoped for diner we ate our one din grub at diner then we hitched upp and went on a making 30 miles to day it thawed some to day so that it made hard traveling thare was part of our squad stoped at one house and some our wagon went on a mile to another house thare we pushed in and just got our teams tended to when it comensed snowing it was very poor stabeling the wind blew cold we got super but such a super worse than last night and the house cold

wel our grub this morning was worse than last night the coffee wasent fit to drink and I went away from the tabel without half enoughf to eat we started a little after seven oclock for Councel Bluffs Iowa a distence of 10 miles ariving thare at 11 AM all safe we then fed our teams and ate a bite then hitched upp and drove down to the river to the fery boat thare we soon got acrost the river and then we drove upp to Omaha City Nebraska Teritora then I then we then got our teams in the stabels then went to hunt a place to stay all night we finley put upp at the Farnem house a very good house but it was crouded Omaha will make a nice place when it gits older it is a place of tow thousand inhabetance and Council Blouffs is about the same but wont make as nice a place as Omaha Omaha is crouded full of speculaters and bumers of all kinds

wel this morning the wether is cold and raw I went out and hunted upp my man to git work but he dident want me but sent me to another man then I went to the land office to see about land wel I got along thair all right I picked out my land and had him make out the papers and then pade over the money and by knoon had my my land of my one then I went and hunted upp the man that they sent me to se but he dident want me so I was left out without work and it wouldent do for me to lay around her without work I thare fore made upp my mind to gow back into Iowa to whair my friends live I thare fore got my trunk and went to the ticket office and got a ticket acrost the river then got on the bus and road rod to the river then crost on the fery boat then had to take the trunk on my sholder and cary to councel bluffs a distence of 4 miles got thare in time for super then baut a ticket and at 9 PM was on the stage

we was out on the road all night and this morning a little after day light the stage stoped at Tabor for breckfast but I dident eat mutch I felt very unwell I hardly felt abel to travel but I spunked up and went on we arived at Sidney at 10 AM thare I had to wait til 3 PM before the stage went east from thair wel I set around in the bar room till the time come around for the stage to leave I felt a little beter this evening thare is a cold wind and I got considerabel cold the stage drove out 27 miles before they gave us a chance for super. we then got to Corinda by 12 oclock at night we then had 22 miles to Bedford before we could stop and I have began to git some what tierd and sleepy

this has been a very plesent day one of the most plesent days we have had this spring I helped tend to the horses and then got redy and went to the Grove to Sabath School and meeting they have a very good S.S. and a good sermon preached by a Presbyterion Minester from St John 1st chap and 4 verse after meeting was out I com back to Mr McNeill and wrote to letters this evening all goes well with me

this morning when I got upp it had been raining and was still at it I helped do the choers and then cut som potatoes up for seed and then sheled corn for seed we sheled corn all day it rained nearly all day but it was very slow and we had a hale storm in the after knoon

to day it has been a very plesent day I went with Mr McNeill and James Evens to the Arnel place to rebuild fence we tore down and lade a new worm of it and built a half a mile of fence five rails high and then put on a lot of stakes on riders and quit at half past five oclock then went to super at Mrs Arnels after super Jima and I went down town and set around thare till nine oclock we then walked home all goes well

to day I and Jima James went to plowing with the tow horse plows and plowed till knoon then we fetched them in and after diner we hitched on to the gang plow and took them out and I plowed till super with them after super thar was a thunder storm a coming upp and I huried out to fetch in the teams before it rained and had just got to them when it comencd hailing the horses broke away from me and thare I had to stand and take it the hardest hail I ever saw I got as wet as a dround rat I dident eny more only tend to my teams

this morning is a young winter thare was to mutch snow on the corn to be plesent husking so I seteld with Mr Walker and then went down to the sawmill to se about giting som lumber but the proprieter was not at home so I had to come away with out seing him I com apast Jesses and stoped thare a few minets and then com home till knoon I helped Uncel build fence in the swamp along the rode north of the house the wether more plesent this evening and at night I went with the girles to prair meeting
