them slowly along fiering up on their rear the Rebs had 600 men & 8 pieces of Art. we drove them 8m & 1st Ohio Cavalry made a charge on them & drove them we then halted for diner stopd 1 hour Col. long came up with 1 Brig. of Cavl. so we then started on 2m & the Rebs had made a stand at Pon Spring Station we run up our batery & planted 2 guns the 25th supported it the 17 NY in our rear the 32 Wis. in there rear the Cavl. dismounted & took there position on the left. we then opend up on them & exchanged shot with them half an hour they threw several shell in to our ranks but did no damage our guns disabled one of theres they then fell back left the batel field in our posesion we followed them it then was getting near sun down we pursued them to Cortland on the Charleston & Memphis R.Road. we drove them out of the town /

we campt there for the night at 9 o.c. PM the 28th at 5 o.c. AM we marcht out for decatur 4m we got to decatur at 4 o.c. PM. We went in to camp lay there there 29 & 30 & 31st all quiet 1st of June 2 & 3 & 4 Raining 5 & 6 & 7 & 8 all quiet the 9th we was paid off raind all day 10th & 11 & 12th all quiet the 13 & 14th talk of a march to Rome Gia. the 15th we got orders to march at 9 o.c. AM at half past 9 we marcht down the Atlanta R.Road. Marcht to flint creak trussel 1m campt for the night in the night orders came for us to march back that old Rocky was threating Decatur so at day light on the 16th we marcht back to Decatur got there at 11 o.c. AM & on the 17th we had to build breast works the 18th workt. there was a rumor of forest comeing to see us with a heavy force 19 & 20 & 21 & 22 & 23 & 24 & 25 workt on the works 26 all quiet till 2 o.c. PM orders came for a detail of 19 men from A Co. 200 men from the 25th the same from the 17th & 32 Col. Grewer of the 17th Command /

We marcht out the 17th in the advance 4m we came up on the Rebs pickets we routed them & drove them in & they made a stand at a spring. We formed a line and drove them a way by this time it was getting dark we put out pickets & lay there till 11 o.c. P.M. we then marcht back to Decatur we got to D.C. at 4 o.c. AM the 27th the 28th we got orders for another scout we marcht at 7 o.c. AM We struck the river 4m below D.C. then marcht down the river we halted along & marcht slowly in perfect quietness till just at the break of day we heard the Rebs blow Revalee & to sadels ameadietly as they had been warned of our approach we formed a line and moved up on them as quick as we could we fierd on them, and scaterd /
 
evry way some in there drawer tail some on there horses we captured 10 wagons 2 ambulances 25 prisoners & Col. we lay there till 10 o.c. AM this was the 29th we then marcht back to D.C. 16m we got to D.C. at 7 o.c. PM 30th lay in camp the 1st of July we was musterd for pay 2ond 3d & 4th & 5th & 6th & 7th & 8th & 9th & 10th lay in camp all quiet 11th got paid off 12th & 13th & 14th & 15th & 16th & 17th & 18th & 19th & 20th & 21st & 22 & 23d lay in camp all quiet. 24th we sent out a detail of 26 men from the 32nd Wis. to a citizens after his furniture after they got out 6m the Rebs made a charge on them & captured all but 9 of them & scatterd them 26th the 32ond Wis. & 18th Mis. & our Regt. went out to Cortland 21m on a 3 days scout they got back the 28th at 4 o.c. PM 29th & 30th & 31st lay up all quiet the 1st of August lay up the 2ond a detail of 3 men from A Co. under Capt larkin went out on a 2 days scout marcht out 12m and returned on the 3d at 4 o.c. PM we took a sirkle around D.C. to tenn River & back found nothing /
 
the Trip to Atlanta Gia.
Aug the 4th we got orders to get ready to go to Atlanta the 5th at 9 o.c. AM we marcht across the tenn River & got on the cars got to Steavenson at 7 o.c. PM Raind that night got to Chatanooga at 5 o.c. AM on the 6th lay there till 2 o.c. PM we then run to Alatoona raind all night. at day light on the 7th got to Marietta at 9 o.c. AM we got to the line of works at 12 o.c. AM got off of the cars & lay there 2m from Atlanta the 8th at 2 o.c. we moved around on the right & took our position on the reserve we lay there till 12 o.c. AM on the 9th we moved up on the front line lay there all night we got 1 man & 1 lieut wounded at 9 o.c. AM on the 10th we was relieved we moved back to the reserve at 3 o.c. PM We moved the reserve up one hundred yds. at 8 o.c. AM on the 11th we moved up to the front line a gain Co A & F & D was on the skirmish line we was relieved at 9 o.c. AM on the 12th we got one man wounded the 13th lieut Cranston was wounded 14th Seth Johnson of Co F was kild /
 
the 15th Co A F & D was on picket lieut Rennet of Co A was kild at 3 o.c. PM the 16th at 4 o.c. PM we was relieved from the front line we moved back to the reserve one of Co F was wounded at 3 o.c. PM the evening of the 17th we was on picket a gain All Norcross of Co F was killed at 4 o.c. AM. on the 18th we was relieved one of Co F was [?] wounded the 19th some heavy canonading 20th 21st & 22nd & 23d lay in camp the 24th we had to go to the front line again about this time the Army began to fall back and march to the right we lay there till the 25th at 4 o.c. PM we fell back the Rebs thought we was falling back across the Chattahoocha River i was sick and was sent back to the rear the Regt marcht around to Jonesborough there they cut there R.Road and had a hard fight on the 31st the Rebs evackuated East Point John Olivier of Co. A was captured on the 30th the 1st of September Atlanta was evacuated the 20th A.C. moved in to town on the 2ond the 7th i gained the Regt at East Point. 9th went in camp /
 
10th arranged camp 11th 12th 13th 14th 15th 16th 17th & 18th lay in camp at East Point 6m south of Atlanta 19th 20th 21st 22ond lay in camp the 23d Co. A F & I & C was sent to the Divs Commissary for guard about this time we was put in the 1st Div 17 A.C. we staid there at the Commissary till the 6th Oct. we was relieved at Marietta
the Campaign after hood
the 1st of October hood began to move around in our rear the Army began to fall back on the R.Road the 2ond & 3d we drew rations the 4th at 9 o.c. AM we marcht out from East Point marcht all night & the 5th marcht to Marietta got there at 4 o.c. PM we lay there the 6th 7th & 8th under marching orders the 9th at 7 o.c. AM marcht out through Marietta to Big Shanty Station we lay there the 10th 11th 12th 13th 14th & 15th under marching orders the 12th 10th at 4 o.c. PM we got orders to march ameadietly we marcht to Ackworth Station went in camp at 2 o.c. AM on the 11th at 8 o.c. AM we marcht out marcht /
 
to Cartersville campt at 6 o.c. PM the 12th at 8 o.c. AM marcht 8m & campt at 4 o.c. PM the 13th at 6 o.c. AM marcht to kingston at 10 o.c. AM we got on the cars for Ressaca hood was siegeing that place then prety close to the town we got there at 6 o.c. PM they was very glad to see us coming we marcht off of the cars & took our position lay there that night got up next morning & to our surprise found that the Rebs had with drew there forces we worked all night throwing up breast works. the 14th at 10 o.c. AM we got orders to go out & see where they were the 25th & a detachment of Cavl. we marcht out 6m & found the Rebs pickets we captured 1 m & spied on them & returned to Ressaca got in camp at 7 o.c. PM & drew rations orders to march at 6 o.c. AM on the 15th the 17th 14th 15th & 23rd Corps moved out on the same road the 25th in the advance 6m we came on to the Rebs we deploied Co A & F & B as skirmishers we moved up on them & found /
 
them in strong force behind works we fought from 10 o.c. AM till 2 o.c. PM We made a charge on them & routed them our loss was 32 kild 5 wounded the Rebs loss was few at the field of battle as they carried them off we found some 40 wound a short distance we capt. some few prisoners we then marcht into Snake Creak Gap whitch was some 6m long the Rebs had cut timbers in our Road our Regt. was relieved from the skirmish line we marcht through the Gap & campt at 6 o.c. PM the 16th at 8 o.c. AM we moved out to Taylors mtn. campt at 6 o.c. PM the 17th lay up under marching orders till 7 o.c. PM we marcht across the mtn & campt at 11 o.c. PM the 18th at 6 o.c. AM we marcht to Fryanville & campt at 4 o.c. PM the 19th at 7 o.c. AM we marcht out through Sumerville to Alpineville & campt at 6 o.c. PM the 20th marcht out at 7 o.c. AM to Gayelsville Alabama campt at 4 o.c. PM /
 
the 21st at 8 o.c. AM marcht to Springfield We lay campt at 12 o.c. AM the 22ond 23d 24th 25th 26th 27th 28th lay up & had review the 29th at 7 o.c. AM marcht out across the litle River throug Cedar Bluff City across Coosa River & campt at 10 o.c. PM 30th at 5 o.c. AM marcht to Cave Spring campt at 3 o.c. PM 31st lay up there all day & got musterd for pay the 1st of November at 7 o.c. AM marcht to Cedar town & campt at 3 o.c. PM 2ond at 9 o.c. AM marcht to Vanwort & campt at 3 o.c. PM 3d at 7 o.c. AM marcht to Dallas & campt at 4 o.c. PM the 4th at 7 o.c. AM marcht to lost mtn & campt at 3 o.c. PM the 5th at 9 o.c. AM marcht to the R.Road 4m from Marietta & campt at 4 o.c. PM the 6th one Regt from each Brigade in the Divs was sent back after forage at 11 o.c. AM we marcht till 7 o.c. PM & campt. the 7th at 7 o.c. AM marcht 3m & got forage & marcht back to Marietta & campt at 4 o.c. PM & found some conscrips for our Regt. the 8th we moved /

camp & had the conscrips divided out to us Co. A got 62 m the 9th got paid off for 2 months. the 10th & 11th lay in camp the 12th had inspection at 7 o.c. AM at 12 o.c. AM orders came for us to march we marcht to Marietta & tore up R.Road all night the 13th at 6 o.c. AM we marcht back to the old camp & drew rations then marcht to Atlanta & campt at 5 o.c. PM at this time we began to evacuate the R.Road & all those places for a long campaign the 14th lay up & drew rations
 
the Campaign from Atlanta to Savannah
it was the 15th of Nov. at 8 o.c. AM that we left Atlanta for Savannah we had cut our own communications off and some 300 m to march throug an unknown land to us inhabited by our enemy alone we knew not how strong the Rebs might be but trusting to God & our General (Sherman) hoom we had /
 
followed so often & always came out victorious but be it as it may we plunged the dark and dreary path to strike a heavy blow against the Rebelion all tho we had to strike one of there strong holds on the shoers of the great sea. onward we marcht through swamps & over rivers through mud & over hills through rain & through sun shine day & night never halting for an opposing foe still they cut timbers in our way & burnt bridges & planted torpedoes in our road but still we prest onward till we reacht the point designated by us. when we got there we found a friend there ready to help us out if needed they could not stand us long they had to flee to the swamps and let us in leaving there plunder behind there guns unspiked a great many there stores &c. Savannah once more b[?] up the Stars & Stripes floats there triumphantly & may they ever do so /

AM marcht to Jacksonville & campt at 9 o.c. PM the 18th at 8 o.c. AM marcht across the ocmugee River & campt at 9 o.c. PM the 19th at 7 o.c. AM marcht through Monticello to hilsborough campt at 6 o.c. PM the 20th marcht at 8 o.c. AM marcht till 8 o.c. PM the 21st at 8 o.c. AM marcht till 4 o.c. PM & camp 22ond at 7 o.c. them again in there out works at Savannah the trops waded the canal & formed a line on the bank & could not advance on the acount of a swamp the Rebs had a line on the oposite side of the swamp they kept up a fiering & canonading all day we lay there all night the 11th found us still there commenct a canonading kept it up all day at 7 o.c. PM we was relieved by the 14th A.C. the 15th & 17th A.C. moved around to the right the 20th A.C. took there position on the left of the 14th the 15th moved around on the 11th the 17th moved at 7 o.c. AM on the 12th we got around to litle Ogechee at 7 o.c. PM the 4th & 3d Divs took there positions on the line the 1st Div lay in reserve the 13th we lay up the 4th Div took fort McCalister whitch opend communications with the fleet very litle fiering on the line the 14th we lay in camp & cleard off a camp the 15th lay in camp in the same place /
 
the 16th at 1 o.c. PM the 1st Div got orders to go out & tear up the Gulf R.R. we marcht to Ogechee River & campt at 4 o.c. PM the 17th at 7 o.c. AM we marcht across the river at kings brige marcht to Midway Church & campt at 4 o.c. PM the 18th at 7 o.c. AM marcht to Walters Mills & campt at 3 o.c. PM the 19th at 7 o.c. AM we marcht out on the R.R. & tore up the track all day & campt at the same camp at 7 o.c. PM the 20th at 8 o.c. AM we marcht back to Midway Church & campt at 4 o.c. PM the 21st at 6 o.c. AM we marcht across the river back to the old camp the 15th A.C. had moved in to town Savannah evacuated on the night of the 20th the 22ond we lay up all day the 23d lay in camp the 24th at 8 o.c. house the 31st musterd for pay the 1st of January 1865 moved out of the house on the levy the 2ond lay in camp the 17th A.C. began to move to Beaufort S.C. the 3d we was relieved & at 12 o.c. PM we marcht on to the steamer Ferry we run out in to the coast & up to hilton head then up the Royal River up to Beaufort got there at 10 o.c. PM went in to camp at 11 o.c. PM lay there the 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th 11th the 12th talk of a march
South Carlina Campaign
the 13th of Jan. the Regt & 17th A.C. marcht out from Beaufort at 5 o.c. PM a south west course i was left back the Corps marcht across the Port Royal River & drove the Rebs out of several forts & marcht to fort Poketalego 23m from B. & campt on the C. & S. R.R. i rejoined the Regt there on the /
 
17th the 18th they lay gen inspection & drill the 19th lay in camp the 20th the Div went out on a 2 day scout & marcht 10m & could not cross the river they then marcht back to Pocotaligo got in camp at 7 o.c. PM i was left back the 21st 22ond & 23d lay in camp the 24th 25th lay in camp 26th marcht out under light marching orders for a 2 days scout marcht at 6 o.c. AM
            the Campaign through S. Carlina & North Carlina It was on the 30th day of Jan Feb that we marcht out from Pocotaligo on the New Campaign we marcht at 7 o.c. AM marcht 7m & camp at 2 o.c. PM 31st lay up the 1st of Febr marcht at 7 o.c. AM marcht across litle Satlkubers River campt at 8 o.c. PM marcht 3m the 2ond at 7 o.c. AM the 25th in the advance marcht in & came up on the Rebs pickets we deployed out & drove them /
