dear Sister
I imbrace this pleasent Sabbath Morning to the penning you a few Broken Remarks to Inform you that through the Kind mercies of God I have been spared to tell the joyaful tale to my Sister that I have Faught through another Bloody & Murderous Battle which took place a few Days sence the contest was bloody and Desperate five Days Skermishing & four of geneal Ingagement. to give the full particulars of our late Battle wold take no less than one Day—moreover it wold make it to tegeous to you therefore I will do no more than give the Detail of the Killed wounded & missing of our Company
 
our Intire loss was {Nine}
 
one Killed Five Wounded & Three Missing Surgt Bostick was Killed. Corpl S Linsy Joseph Briggs Willard Easterday Wm Cooper Lewis Wurtelerode all those wounded & of the missing Daniel Bock Wm Coldwell Philip Hand. many more of our comrads has fallen but to tegeous to mention and of All is the loss our Gallent Brave & Noble Hearted Col G. Hawins which fell dead the first Volley while we grately mourn the loss of Comrads that has been thined from our Ranks we are pressed to make a few Remarks for our Colonel he was only / allways Kind and done Every thing in his power to make his Boys comfortable he was a true patriot and well Drilled & when he was leading his Boys up in front of the Enemy he was Bussy exorting his Boys to Keep cool and fire low. my principal object in addressing you those few lines are that I felt assured that you have heard of the Battle and will probaly bee uneasy of your Brother untill you here from him personly more over to here from Geo & Henry Markley it’s the latter that promps me myself made the trip with out a scrach George is at Nashville Nursing Lieut. Denny who is very Ill
 
Henry was wounded through the thigh and has probaly fallen in the hands of the Enemy at Enerate he is missing they can only account for his being wounded.
I will bee pressed to a close shortly while we mourn the loss of our friends we have one great consolation that is Murfeesburo is our Victory is ours and when we have Victory we have Glory therefore I close wishing you to give my love to all who feels an Inquiring Interest in my well'fare all h all low me the Happiness of Hereing from you soon accept of my love and Concider me your Ever dutifull Brother
