Emma A. Leach
Emma A. Leach was born around 1843 in Connecticut. Her father may have been a shingle maker who owned $200 of personal property in 1860. She grew up in Litchfield County, Connecticut, and she married Charles W. Smith there around 1866. They had four children, three of whom survived: Mary, born around 1869; Carrie, born around 1874; and Robert, born around 1883. The family lived in Plymouth, Connecticut, and her husband worked as a farmer. They moved to New Britain, Connecticut, sometime in the 1870s, and her husband worked in the town’s fish market. She died in New Britain in 1914.
