            I dispached you on yesterday from Brentwood at 10 oc AM stating that I had captured Brentwood with the Stockad and Burnt the Brig I captured 765 privates & 35 commissioned officers making 800 I captured all Si 16 waggons & trains & 4 ambulances with all their Stores & arms I have had to fall back to this place to protect my prisners as the enemys Cavelry was pressing me hard and had stampeded / the 4 Miss Reg and Coxes Regament I have goten the prisners & arms & Bagag all off safe and directed Col Edmondson & Maj Sanders to camp at Williamsport and report to Capt Sims this being with the prisners turning over the captured property to the proper officers you will ples direct what shal be don with the prisners I find my artilery horses [?] I asked that I ma return this evening to Spring Hill you wil ples designate wherein you wish me to camp my / my loss was three kild and five wounded the enemys loss was fifteen kild & thirty six wounded I lost one Lut out of Coxes Regament & two Privates of Bissels Regant I send Col Cruse to Columbia for the purpos of fetching out my waggons & he wil cary any Dispaches you may desire
