George B. McClellan to Edwin M. Stanton, 15 May 1862
Cumberland May 15—1 PM
Rain commenced again yesterday & continued all last night & today. With utmost difficulty I have moved two Divisions in advance of this day & moved forward those in rear. We have to do much road making as we go—but are continually advancing Nothing new from the front today. I have heard nothing from James River gun boats Very cool wet & dreary today. Sectys Seward Bates & Welles left last night
