Saturday, January 1, 1876.
I dont propose to keep much of a diary this year, only note down the number of callers I have each day and a few items of interest. Emmons called this afternoon. Ada Batchelder was in tonight to bring some ribbon she got in Boston for me today
 
Sunday 2
I didn't go to church today it was dull this morning. after supper the children and I went into Sammy Dow's and Charley Batchelder's a little while. Sam Fogg called to the door this morning to see Stephen. he did not come in.

Monday, January 3, 1876.
Elmer got his medicine from New York today. three bottles.
Linda Smith has been down all the afternoon. Johnnie was with her. Fannie was down this forenoon. I have washed and ironed today.
 
Tuesday 4
It has been cold and very windy today and the wind is blowing very hard this evening.
Ida came home from Glocester this forenoon. she came in and waited awhile to get a chance to ride down. she went with Mr Boynton. Fannie was down.

Wednesday, January 5, 1876.
It was pretty cold this morning but is warmer tonight. Looks dull tonight Mrs Rollins Belle and Fannie were down all the afternoon and Fannie has been down this evening staying till they came from meeting. they came for her.
 
Thursday 6
It has been rainy most of the day. snowed a little this afternoon. it seems cooler tonight. Belle and Fannie have been down this forenoon. Belle lent me her sabbath school book. I am reading it aloud to the children.

Friday, January 7, 1876.
Done all my sweeping and cooking this forenoon. have been mending all the afternoon on Stephen's old vest. have not got it done yet. Mrs Rollins and Fannie have been down all the afternoon. Sarah Ann and Ida called.
 
Saturday 8
I have done all my mending and had a little time to work on my dress. I have done some on it every day this week but yesterday. Belle has been down this afternoon. Fannie has been down twice today. she brought me a basket of good eating apples from her Mother

Sunday, January 9, 1876.
Ada and I have been to meeting. it was rather muddy but quite mild. when we got home we found Abbott and Zip here. they staid till 6 oclock. after they went Emma Dow and her mother were in awhile.
 
Monday 10
It was dull this morning and I did not wash but it cleared off then I was sorry. I went up to Abby Leavitt's this afternoon to get my dress cut. John Warren carried me up and I walked back to Charles Seavey's staid to tea and rode home with him. I called in to see Martha Jenness' baby Fannie staid with the children

Tuesday, January 11, 1876.
It has been very cold and windy today. I have washed. part of my clothes I put out doors and part in the storeroom. those I put out doors got dry and I have ironed them this afternoon. Mrs Rollins and Fannie were down more than an hour this forenoon. Sam has been here to work
 
Wednesday 12
This morning I put out the rest of my clothes. they got dry but I didn't iron them. Lizzie Jenness has been up to spend the day. Frank brought her up and Abbott came up for her this evening. I was real glad she came up. it has been a long time since she was up. Alvin called in this forenoon Sam has been here to work today.

Thursday, January 13, 1876.
I ironed the rest of my clothes today. I dont like to be so many days washing and ironing but I couldn't help it this week. Mrs Rollins and Fannie have been down this afternoon and this evening after Stephen came home Ada and I went up there.
 
Friday 14
As I had been sewing rather steady this forenoon I thought I would walk out this afternoon so Ada and I called down to Mrs Levi Batchelder's and down to Mrs James Taylor's to see the baby. she has a nice boy. this evening Mrs Rollins Belle and Fannie have been down.

Saturday, January 15, 1876.
I have washed and ironed today and done some cooking. this afternoon Ida and Annie Batchelder called and just after supper True and Emma called. this evening George D Brown called and then Emmons came in. Moses Shaw died today
 
Sunday 16
Ada and I have been to meeting all day and to sabbath school concert tonight. when we got home from meeting this afternoon we found Jewel Knowles here but he didnt stop long. I wanted to go down to see Etta tonight but there was no way I could go.

Monday, January 17, 1876.
This morning it was dull and snowed a little but the clouds looked broken and as I thought it would clear off I went to Hampton. Zip met me there and we went to Newburyport. I got home at half past 5. Alvin came in tonight
 
Tuesday 18
Moses Shaw was buerried today. I wanted to go to the funeral but it was rainy. Ada went up to Mrs Rollins' this forenoon to carry some things I got for her yesterday. she was down in the morning before I went to see if I would get them. John Smith has been in this evening.

Wednesday, January 19, 1876.
This has been another dull rainy day. I have been working on my dress. I dont know when I shall get it done for tomorrow I must leave it and go to work on Stephen's shirts.
 
Thursday 20
This forenoon True was in he was going to Portsmouth with Sam. Etta is dead, she died last night about 5 oclock. About 11 oclock this forenoon Jim & Caddy came down they staid till 4 they are going to move down east. True was here to supper. Mrs Rollins Belle and Fannie were down this afternoon.

Friday, January 21, 1876.
I cut Stephens shirts out yesterday and worked on them some. this forenoon I worked on them and this afternoon I took the children down to see Etta. they cannot go to the funeral and as they wanted to see her once more I went down. I let them come home and I staid down to practice some pieces for the funeral
 
Saturday 22
Today I thought I would wash I was getting along nicely, when Bezee and Carrie and Willie came in the 9 oclock train. they did not make any stop went down to Littleton. then Mrs Rollins and Fannie came down staid till 11 oclock but I finaly got ready and we went to the funeral. when I got home I done my ironing. I guess I am some tired tonight

Sunday, January 23, 1876.
Poor Etta it dont seem as though she was dead. she was very poor. she suffered dreadfully. Bezee and Carrie and Willie staid all night to Charlotte's and have come up here tonight to stay with us till tomorrow it snowed this morning so we did not go to meeting. it looks now like clearing off.
 
Monday 24
It has been pleasant today only rather windy. Bezee and family went home on the 20 minuets of 11 train. they have bought a house in Portsmouth near the depot so it will be nice and handy to go and see them. Linda Smith has been down a little while this afternoon.

Tuesday, January 25, 1876.
This has been a hard day to me. I have not felt very well and Elmer has tried me very much. Mrs Rollins and Fannie came down between 9 and 10 oclock and did not go till past three. Emeline [?] called this forenoon. Adaline Batchelder this afternoon.

I done some cooking this forenoon and just as I got set down to sewing this afternoon John and Mary Jane came down. John went to Portsmouth on the train and came back at 20 minuets of six; they will have a cold ride home I sent by John to Portsmouth to get some ribbon for bows for my dress

Thursday, January 27, 1876.
Last night Eddie Wiggin brought me a piece of meat for pies. this forenoon I boiled it and chopped it and pealed the apples and chopped them and got the meat all mixed ready to make pies tomorrow if nothing happens. I have got one of Stephen's shirts done.
 
Friday 28
I done my sweeping, then washed my stairs and entry and made some mince pies and thought I would mend a pair of stockings. had just commenced when Frank & Nessie and the baby came and soon after they got here Emma came she wanted me to go to Portsmouth for her and she would keep house

Saturday, January 29, 1876.
for me but it rained and Nessie was here so I told her I would go Saturday. it rained so hard Nessie and the baby staid all night and are going to stay till tomorrow. I have been to Portsmouth this afternoon for Emma. it was rather wet traveling but it did not rain. Emma will stay all night.
 
Sunday 30
It cleared off cold last night and the wind blew and is still blowing hard. Emmons came up for Emma this morning. I did not go to meeting in the day time for Nessie was here but Ada and I have been this evening. Frank came for Nessie. they went about 4 oclock. there were a good many went forward for prayer this evening.

Monday, January 31, 1876.
It was pretty cold today but I washed. the clothes did not dry very fast but I got the most of them dry so that I took them in after supper. Mrs Rollins and Fannie were down this afternoon this evening she and I have been to meeting. it was real good a number went forward for prayers.
 
Tuesday, February 1
I ironed this forenoon and finished Stephen's shirt this afternoon. Mrs Rollins and Fannie were down. she could not go to meeting tonight so I went alone. Ed Taylor and I walked home together. it was a good meeting but not quite as good as last night. Oliver French has come out. Ben Orin Leavitt went forward tonight. Linda Smith called

Wednesday, February 2, 1876.
This has been a strange day. this morning it rained hard. then it snowed and cleared off cold and windy and such a wind. oh it was fearful. I wanted to go to meeting tonight but it was too cold and windy. Mrs Rollins was down this forenoon. she staid till most noon.
 
Thursday 3
It was a very cold night last night but today it has been more moderate and just now when Mrs Rollins and I came from meeting it was snowing. I done considerable cooking today. I had a clam chowder for supper. Belle and Fannie were down to supper. we went to meeting this eve Mr Jenness Browns wife is dead. she was brought here today.

Friday, February 4, 1876.
It snowed considerable last night and did not leave off till most noon today. I wanted to go to meeting tonight but the snow was so light and there was not a good path so I staid at home. I have been all but two evenings this week so far.

It was pretty cold this morning. Mary Ellen and Ida were in. they came up to bring Woodberry he went back. Mary will stay another week. Mrs Rollins Belle and Fannie were down this afternoon. I have been to meeting this evening. rode up with Horace Moulton. home with Charles Batchelder.

Sunday, February 6, 1876.
Ada and I started to walk to meeting and Mr Rollins overtook us at the four corners and carried us up. we staid all day and Charley Batchelder brought us home. this eve Mrs Rollins Augusta Taylor and I walked up Augusta called for me. we walked home. had a beautiful meeting
 
Monday 7
It rained last night and spoiled the sleighing. it has been a beautiful day, so warm it has thawed all day. I washed and got my clothes all in before supper. Mrs Smith called. I was not thinking of going to meeting but Emmons called and asked me to ride so I went. I got me a hymn book and Ada a sabbath school singing book.

Tuesday, February 8, 1876.
I went off to meeting in such a hurry last evening that I did not sprinkle and fold my clothes so this forenoon I ironed what I did not want to sprinkle then sprinkled the rest to iron tomorrow. Mrs Rollins and Fannie were down I went up there this afternoon. this evening we went to meeting.
 
Wednesday 9
I finished my ironing and done some cooking this forenoon. it began to snow about noon and I guess we shall have quite a snow storm for it is snowing hard this evening. I am sorry for I wanted to go to meeting. Mrs Rollins and Belle and Fannie have been down this afternoon.

Thursday, February 10, 1876.
I got a letter from Ada Miller last night. she sent me Ari's picture. I am much pleased with it. Belle and Fannie were down this afternoon. I wanted to go to meeting tonight very much but it was too bad traveling. I was glad I did not go when John and Mary Jane came they have just gone home.
 
Friday 11
It has been quite rainy all day and it is raining this evening. Mrs Rollins and Fannie were down till past noon. I have been cutting out two rows of patchwork for Ada to match some she has got done. when she gets that done she will not sew any more till Mother comes down to cut her out some more

Saturday, February 12, 1876.
I done my cooking and mending today. this afternoon Mrs Rollins Belle and Fannie called. they thought it was too bad traveling to go to meeting but I wanted to go so I started and Joshua overtook me and carried me up and coming home Charley Batchelder took me in and I am very glad I went.

Ada and I started to go to meeting. just as we got to the road Freemont Moulton drove along and carried us up and I rode home with him and Ada rode with Bert & Ida. they were up to meeting. Mrs Rollins and I went this evening. it was bad traveling but we got along nicely. we walked up and back.

Monday, February 14, 1876.
I did not wash today for it was dull. this afternoon it hailed all the afternoon and it is snowing hard this evening. Fannie was down this morning for Ada to go and slide before it stormed. this afternoon Ada Batchelder was in for me to show her how to work a motto.
 
Tuesday 15
This has been a rainy day. it rained hard most all the time till sunset. then it cleared off. there was a rainbow. the wind begun to blow about dark and this evening it is blowing very hard and it is growing cold fast. I did not wash. I have felt most sick all day. I laid down a long time

Wednesday, February 16, 1876.
I washed and done most all my ironing today. all but the starched clothes. Ada and Fannie went up to Clarabell Batchelder's this afternoon. when she came to call Ada she said Belle would go to meeting tonight if I would so we went. we walked up and back.
 
Thursday 17
I have finished my ironing and kept busy most of the day. I dont know as I feel any worse than I should if I had not gone to meeting last night. Mrs Rollins and Fannie were down most all the forenoon. I sat here the first of the evening in the dark I see a good many going to meeting

Friday, February 18, 1876.
I done my sweeping and all my mending and I had considerable. then the children and I went up to Mrs Rollins a while. I have not been up to make a call for some time. this evening Mrs Rollins Belle and Fannie have been down here.

I done my cooking and a number of odd jobs today. I thought I would not commence any new work as it was Saturday. Mrs Rollins and Belle and I have been to meeting this evening. it was what Mr Haines called a testamoneal meeting and he expected every christian to say something. there were 118 testamonies in 55 minuets

Sunday, February 20, 1876.
It was pretty windy this morning but I wanted to go to meeting so Ada and I went. it was rather tough but we got there all right. this evening Mrs Rollins and I have been to meeting. it was pretty cold and windy. the vestry was crowded full. they brought in chairs
 
Monday 21
It was pretty cold this morning but I washed. it grew warmer after awhile so the clothes dried nicely. I got them in but did not have time to fold them for Sam came in and we sang some pieces in my new book. I have been to meeting. I walked up and rode home with Fremont and his mother.

Tuesday, February 22, 1876.
I ironed this forenoon. just before I got done Charles Seavey sent down that he would be here at half past 12 oclock for me to go to Exeter with his wife so I got ready. it snowed considerable last night and today it was mild and was very good sleighing. the folks are all well at home.

Mary Jane said yesterday that John and she and a number of others were coming down here tonight to meeting but it is so cold and windy I guess they wont come. Mrs Rollins and Fannie came down this forenoon in all the wind. Fannie wanted Ada to go up there this afternoon but I thought home the best place.

Thursday, February 24,1876.
It has been a very cold windy day. I done some cooking this forenoon. I thought we must eat if it was cold I havn't seen but three women for two days and that is something unusual. I guess Exeter folks wont get down to meeting tonight.

This is the third day that the wind has blowed and it has been so very cold. if it is going to be this weather I am afraid I shall have to stay housed till warm weather. Mrs Smith and Johnnie were down a little while this afternoon. they came down for Charley it is too cold to go to meeting tonight

Saturday, February 26, 1876.
It has not been quite so cold today but it has been rather windy, so much so that I didn't hardly dare venture to meeting tonight. I wanted to go. Emmons called in when he went and when he went home he has just gone and it is most 11 oclock. Mrs Rollins and Fannie were down this afternoon. Ida and Emma called.

This has been a beautiful day. Ada and I have been to meeting all day and to Sabbath school concert this evening. the concert was very good and the vestry was crowded full. they brought in seats. I should think they would open the meeting house Sunday evening. the vestry is not large enough.

Monday, February 28, 1876.
I did not wash today. it snowed this morning and I did not feel very smart and it would not have been a good day for it has snowed some all day and it is still snowing this evening. I have been most sick with my head all day.

Another day passed and I have not washed and it has been a beautiful day but I did not feel able to wash I have not sat up all day. this evening I feel considerable better. I hope it will be pleasant tomorrow for I must try to wash if my head feels better.

Wednesday, March 1, 1876.
I have washed today and got my clothes most all dry and folded, it has not been a good drying day. Abbott and Zip called tonight they did not stop long. they had been to Portsmouth. Charley Knowles called and Mrs Joe Marston. John Moulton was down tonight and Mrs Rollins Belle and Fannie.
 
Thursday 2
Stephen went to Exeter last night with the Rollins. I thought it was funny John should get down here before he got home. I have done my ironing today. Mrs Rollins and Fannie were down most all the forenoon. I should have liked to gone to meeting this evening but my head did not feel well enough.

Friday, March 3, 1876.
I done my cooking today so not to have it to do tomorrow for I wanted to mend. Mrs Rollins and Belle have been to Portsmouth and Fannie staid with Ada. Frank Jenness and his wife called awhile this afternoon and Ida Tarlton came up awhile.

I have done my mending and finished Elmer a shirt and run a pair of heels to Stephens new stockings and Ada has finished a pair of pillow cases that she commenced yesterday. Emma has been up this afternoon. this evening Mrs Rollins and Mrs Edwin Lamprey have been in. now I am ready for Sunday

Sunday, March 5, 1876.
I got up quite early for me this morning about 7 oclock and Ada and I got ready and went to meeting. the ground was frozen when we went but it was very warm and thawed very much when meeting was done but Zipporah and Abbot were up and Zip took the horse and came up for me and they carried me up this evening.
 
Monday 6
I have washed today. Ada helped me a great deal and I got done in real good season. I have got the clothes all dry and folded. Belle was down this forenoon. she and Tom have gone to Portsmouth to get her tooth filled. Mrs Rollins and Fannie have been down this afternoon.

Tuesday, March 7, 1876.
I have ironed today. it was real warm and it has been all this week the snow is going fast. I commenced Elmer's shirt yesterday the last one and am getting along nicely on it. Mrs Rollins and Fannie have been down this afternoon.
 
Wednesday 8
I have got Elmers shirt almost done. Belle has been down all the evening. Emmons was up last night and staid till after 10 oclock. Stephen sat up with Mr Warner last night he is very feeble. Ada has been to Fannie's and Fannie down here most all day. back and forth.

Thursday, March 9, 1876.
I have finished the shirt and commenced Ada a night dress. have peeled apples and chopped and mixed mincemeat and made 8 pies. Ida called this forenoon. Mr and Mrs Haight this afternoon and Emmons and Levi Batchelder this evening.
 
Friday 10
I have made and frosted a loaf of cake today so not to have so much to do tomorrow. have done my sweeping. Mrs Rollins and Fannie have been down this afternoon Ada Batchelder has been in this evening. Ada is getting along nicely making sheets and pillow cases. she sews very nicely I think.

Saturday, March 11, 1876.
I have done cooking enough to last over town meeting I guess all but the turkey. Stephen got that tonight and that will be cooked the first of the week. Ada Batchelder told me last night I could have some milk so I went down and got it today. Ada has finished her sheet & I her night dress this afternoon.
 
Sunday 12
Ada and I went to meeting all day. it was pretty bad traveling coming home but I did not get so much discouraged but that I went this evening. the meeting was very good George Tarlton came home last night he and Ida called this afternoon.

Monday, March 13, 1876.
This has been a very rainy day. I did not wash for I did not want the clothes round town meeting day. I have cooked my turkey and got all ready for town meeting. I have not felt very smart. John Smith gave me a can of milk tonight.
 
Tuesday 14
Ada and I worked round and washed floors and got all ready for True's folks and they did not get here till noon. True and Charlotte, Emmons and Emma came. Father called in when he went to town meeting. True's folks did not stay this evening there was a meeting down there.

Wednesday, March 15, 1876.
The wind has blowed very hard indeed all day and is blowing this evening. it blowed all day yesterday and last night. I washed today. I did not put all the clothes out doors but what I did I got dry. Mrs Rollins Belle & Fannie Linda Smith and Johnnie have been down.
 
Thursday 16
This forenoon it was very pleasant I put out the rest of my clothes and got them all dried and all of them ironed. this afternoon Adaline Batchelder and I have been down to see George's new house and called into Mrs Jim and Richard Taylor's when I came home I called into Charley Batchelder's.

Friday, March 17, 1876.
I have done my cooking today for I thought I had so much mending to do tomorrow I had best have all day to do it in and the sweeping I have done. I have been trying to finish Ada's night dress but I shall have to give it up this week. Emmons went to Boston yesterday.
 
Saturday 18
I have been most sick all day but I had to keep up for the mending had to be done and there was a lot of it but I got it all done, and finished Ada's sheet for she has been sick all day and couldn't do it. we have all got very bad colds. I soaked Ada's and my feet last night, tried to drive it off

Sunday, March 19, 1876.
It has been very cold and windy all day but I have not minded it. I am real sick today I did not get up till half past one oclock. the Dr called this afternoon. he took some bottles to prepare me some medicine. I hope it will help me. I cough a great deal.
 
Monday 20
I got up this morning about 9 oclock. I do not feel very smart but I have finished Ada's night dress. Mrs Rollins and Fannie have been down this afternoon. it has been a nice day to wash but I couldn't. the Dr called with the medicine Mrs Seavey sent me 110 pieces for my quilt, quite a birth day present.

Tuesday, March 21, 1876.
Last evening after Stephen came in Ada called him up stairs and he went out and came in and went up again and when I went to bed Ada had a bottle of cologne and Elmer a comb for me a birth day present we had a terrible storm and blow this forenoon and it has not cleared off yet.
 
Wednesday 22
I am making Ada's doll a new dress and it is more of a job than I thought it would be but I have been promising her I would make one some time and so I thought now was a good time. it has not been very pleasant today but it appears tonight as though it would be colder. I hope we shant have any snow.

Thursday, March 23, 1876.
Mr Stacey Marston died Monday and was buerried today. I have washed. it has been a nice day to wash. I have got the clothes all dry and folded. John Taylor has been here today cutting wood. Mrs Rollins and Fannie were down quite awhile this forenoon.
 
Friday 24
I have done several kinds of work today. I done the sweeping then the ironing then the cooking all this forenoon. this afternoon I commenced a sheet for Ada her last one and then I have been sewing my patchwork since. Emmons came home yesterday. Mrs Rollins Belle and Fannie have been down tonight.

Saturday, March 25, 1876.
John Taylor was here this forenoon and worked all the forenoon in the snow. it snowed hard all day. this evening it is raining and blowing very hard. Stephen has just gone up to Mr Warner's. he is going to watch with him tonight. he rode up with John Warren. I am going to bed now.

This morning it was real foggy but it cleared off and was beautiful. Stephen got home at 6 oclock. it rained hard all night. the snow is about all gone and it is very muddy. I did not go to meeting it was such bad traveling. Frank has been down he came to bring Jonathan's waggon. Mrs Rollins and Fannie were down this evening.

Monday, March 27, 1876.
I have washed and ironed today and commenced Ada's calico dress. it was quite windy. I hope it will dry up some of the mud. I should like to get out somewhere but it is so muddy I cant. Martha Batchelder called in a little while this afternoon.
 
Tuesday 28
I have been working most all day on Ada's dress and have got along nicely on it. I thought I would go up to Emma Dow's but just as I got ready to go Mrs Marden went up there so I waited till this evening and I have been up a little while. it looks dull as though it would storm again.

Wednesday, March 29, 1876.
It was quite rainy this morning and the wind blew hard but it cleared off in the forenoon. then we had a little shower just before night and this eve it is raining again. Mrs Rollins Belle and Fannie have been down this eve. Deacon Chapman died this noon.
 
Thursday 30
This forenoon I went up to Mrs Rollins a little while. I have not been up there before for some time. this afternoon I had to lie down I had such a head ache. Ada Batchelder called and Mrs Rollins and Fannie came down. Belle has gone off to ride somewhere with Tom.

Friday, March 31, 1876.
It was rather windy to day to have the windows open to sweep but I got along very well. Mrs Rollins and I went to Deacon Chapmans funeral this afternoon. it was in the vestry then we went into the school house. it is very nice. we called on Mrs Seavey's.
 
Saturday, April 1
I have done my cooking today and finished Ada's dress all but the trimming that I have not got yet. Mrs Rollins Belle and Fannie have been down this afternoon. Mrs Smith came down with Charley she came in and waited till he got ready to go.

This has been a beautiful day. Ada and I have been to meeting all day and Mrs Rollins and I have been this evening. Ada and I rode home this afternoon with Charley Batchelder. Nat and Sarah Ann were up a little while after meeting this afternoon.
 
Monday 3
I have washed today. had a large wash. it had not been a very nice day to do clothes but I got mine most all dry and have got them all folded. Mr Haight called this afternoon. he is going off this week. Stephen has just got home. he says Mr Warner died tonight about 6 oclock.

Tuesday, April 4, 1876.
I done my ironing this forenoon and Elmer chopped the meat and I pealed and partly chopped the apples and mixed the meat. it has been a very stormy day. it rained all the forenoon till about noon then it begun to snow and has snowed and blowed very hard ever since.
 
Wednesday 5
What a storm we have had the hardest storm of the winter. the snow is one foot deep on a level and in some places it is three and four. it looks as though winter was just commencing. Emmons was up this forenoon and Mrs Jonathan Philbrick called this afternoon.

Thursday, April 6, 2876.
This has been a nice day overhead and the snow is going fast but oh! it is fearful traveling. Mr Warner was buerried this afternoon Stephen and I went he came for me with Charles' horse and Artie brought us home. there were three ministers Mr Nolt, Mr Scott & Mr Haines.
 
Friday 7
It has not been quite so warm today as it was yesterday and the snow has not melted so fast but it is going. I done my sweeping and mending this forenoon Mrs Rollins Belle and Fannie have been down this afternoon Mr Haight and his wife called in to bid me good bye they have gone bag and baggage.

I done my cooking and finished the last pair of my drawers this forenoon. I have made three pairs this week. this afternoon I cut out two [?] waists for Ada and have got one partly done. Emmons has been up this evening.

The wind blowed hard this morning but I thought I wanted to go to meeting so Ada and I fixed and went. Ida was up to meeting in the afternoon Bert was with her. they brought me home. Mrs Rollins and I have been this evening. Stephen and Ada went down to see Ella's and Nell's babies.

Monday, April 10, 1876.
This has been a nice day. I have washed and got my clothes all dry and folded. we have got 24 little chickens and I shall be glad when it is warm enough to put them out doors. Mr Ike Lullin called here on his way to Stratham Saturday and said he should call today when he went back but I have not seen him.

I done my ironing this forenoon. I am feeling real bad for I expect we shall have to move. Mr Hobbs and two other men were here this forenoon they talk of buying this place. Emma sent word that she wanted the children and me to go down and spend the day tomorrow. I guess we will go. John & Mary Jane have been down tonight.

Emma came up for us early this morning and Emmons brought us home this evening. we had a very nice time called into Abbie's and Alvin's and Mrs Sarah's then we went all over Mr Ridlons house and Emma & I rode down to Father's.

Today has been fast day. this afternoon Stephen got a horse of Charles Batchelder and took me to ride. the children kept house. we went round by Chesley's and called. then round by the beach. called at Father's and stopped at Alvin's field to see him. then home.

Friday, April 14, 1876.
I came to Portsmouth this forenoon intending to go back tonight. I done my shoping and came up to Jim's. about four oclock I went into Ben's and did not think I was stoping but when I got back it was too late to get the train so I had to stay out here all night.

I came home from Portsmouth on the first train this morning. Ada was doing up the work. she had it most all done, real nice. I changed my clothes and went to cooking I got that done and my mending. Mrs Rollins was down this forenoon and she and Fannie and Belle this eve. Emmons was up tonight.

Emma came up this morning for me to go down to meeting. I went she brought me home tonight after the rain. Ada and I with Mrs Rollins and Fannie went to the sabbath school concert up here tonight. the vestry was full.

I have washed today and got the clothes all dry. I have written to Caddy today to know why she dont write to me. I wrote to her long ago and she did not answer it so I have wrote to know the reason. Belle has been down this evening all the evening.
