Dear Ari
I recieved a letter from you yesterday dated July 10th I was very glad to hear from you that you was getting along so well. I am well and hearty. I have been out with the Regt for the last four days, we had a very easy time out there. nothing to do but eat and sleep. you say it is hot there. I reckon it is a very little warm out here but it is nice this morning for it rains good. it is the first rain we have had for a long time. it will be better for us to have a good rain, although it will make it bad out in the rifle pitts, it will be so wet and muddy. / Oh: Ari: the mail has just come and I have got two letters, one from Rye and one from Boston, so I will stop and find out who thay come from. well Ari I have found out who the letters come from one come from Emma Jenness, and the other from Ari. You say that I was homesick when I wrote the last letter. it is enough to make any one homesick some times out here, but I did not know that I was very homesick, that is any more then I am at any time. if I was alone in the world I shouldnt care so much about going home this year or next but as it is I should like to be at home now. well it is only 14 months from to day that we have got to stop and that will soon pass away, but I hope this war will close before that, if I have to / stop as long. you say that you dont want me to worry about you, do you suppose that I should worry about such a cretter as you if you think that I would you must be smart (in a pigs eye) Sugar, Ari! I cant write for our Ordley Sergt is promoted to 2nd Lieut. of Co H. his name is Thomas Fairservice. he has been in the tent with Winn and me since Morrison got hurt and I am mighty glad to get red of him to (Twedle de)

you say that By told you that the soldiers pay had been raised to $16.00 a month. yes Ari! it is so. Privates get $16.00 and Corpls get $18.00 ordly Sergts get $24.00 and Sergts get $20.00 from the first day of May, 1864, so you see that I am getting $20.00 a month from the first of May. it is quite a jump for me I think dont you. we have not been paid / off yet. I wish thay would pay us off so I could send you some mony. I dont know when thay will pay us, you will have to get along as well as you can for a while. I will send you some as soon as I get it. tell Elmer that I will whip him hard when I get home if he ant a good boy. tell Myra that I guess Sergt Morrison is getting better, the last that we herd from him he was in Philadelphia in the Hospital. his Father had been out after him but the Doc wouldnt let him go home then for he was afraid of the brane fever, but he will go as soon as he gets able. Give my regards to all the girls in the shop, also to Han and By. I must close this and write to Emma a few lines (we have got to go to the front to night) Give my love to Elmer and write as often as you can.

From your Affectionate Husband
