Dear Ari
I recieved your letter of the 8th yesterday and also the Bugett of Fun, with an envlope in it. I am sorry that you have to have so many crying spells. Ari: cant you help it. I wish that I was there. I would see if I could stop it for you. my health is good now, the Regt is in, and I guess I shall go out with them to night, Winn wants me to. he says he is so lonesome now Morrison is away. we have not heard from Morrison since I wrote you last. Oh! did you send that picture out for Sergt Winn. he says he guesses you did. it is a good picture only it / dont look as you did last spring when I was at home on a furlough you look very poor. dont Han give you enough to eat, or do you worry yourself all most to death about me. now Ari dont worry if you can help it for I am afraid you will make yourself sick. we are haveing pretty easy times now Ari! I have no war news to tell you. every thing is about the same here as it has been for some time. it seems that Lee is going twords the North. well Ari when you find that he is getting pretty near Boston, you and Han must take the spade and go to fortifying. dont run for the rascall, stand your ground, like a bold soldier. I dont care how far he goes that way, it will wake up / some of those sleepy heads at the North and make them do something to stop this blood shed I hope for we have had enough of it I think.
you need not send me any more envlopes backed if you are going home so soon. I wish when you write that you have got a letter from me, you would just say what date it is, then I shall know when you get all I have wrote, the same as I do yours understand.
you wanted to know if all of the Rye boys were killed or wounded. no, there is only two killed, Mathews and Foye, and two wounded, Chace & Randell. the rest are sick and discharged and on detached service. Clough is helping the cook, so he stays to the rear and carys the grub up to the Co. at meal times. I was glad to get a picture paper / it is something new to us to get a picture paper out here. I would like another one some time if thay dont cost too much, Ari. the officers all wanted to see it as soon as I got it. Oh Ari: I got a letter from Lewis Chase the other day. pleas tell me what street he lives on so I can direct a letter to him, also the the No. Have you ever wrote to any of my folks about my being wounded. I laid in my tent all day the 4th and sleep all I could. it was so hot that I couldnt sleep much. that was the way I spent my 4th of July. well I close. give my regards to all the girls and boys. give my love to Elmer and tell him to be a good boy for papa will be at home pretty soon. tell me how you get along with your trubble when you write, and write very often
Good day. From your affectionate
Husband
