Camp Near Peaters Burg Nov 20 1864
                        Sister Mary it is with much plasure that I wright to you to lett you no that I am well and hope that this few lines will find you the saim it has benn some timb sinc I hav wroat to you but I will wright afew lines to you I am in hopes to see you this spring for I am in to git my discharg some timb this winter the Lieutenant says that I shall hav my discharg this winter bulley for him he is a new Lieutenant and a good one two now you may bett If I git my discharg I thinck that I shall make a visit to St Johnsbury and stop a spell to gitt my health what do you thinck a bout it would it a good plan or not how is it Mary is it good staying up there now is it very cold or what kind of wether is it did you see that a count in the paper of the fight on the left whair we gained 10 miles that day I caim near gitt taken a prisner the rebs was on us head and heals / but they was not smart a nough to catch old harv and they cant catch me and now I want you to tell Mother to send me that box of things that I sent for awl that I want awl of them things and something good to eat for thanksgivin send the boots and stockins shirts and tell benn to send me a black hat to clown and pretty fine send me some maple sugar send one dosan of nutmages and one pound of awl spice and a half of a pound of sinamon for I am a coocking and cann make a good sum of money this winter if I stop And I shall stopp a month or 2 and now send my box as soon as you gitt this giv this letter to mother as soon as you read it we hav moved from frunt of peatersburg we left there yestday and now we ar a bout 5 miles from there down on the left down below the yellow house it is very warm hear to day I was over to see Edd Young the other day and had a good timb I thinck that there will be any more fighting this fawl I cant wright any more this timb but next timb I will wright / more now tell mother to send the box soon so good by this from your brother

this is from the old man that is half starved I had hard tack and raw porck for breackfast and raw porck and hard tack for dinner and for a chang I had hard tack and porck for super
