Dear Martha
It is a rainy day and I have nothing to do but write letters or do any thing I please. I got back here one week ago tonight about six o'clock. We met the sergeant in the Worcester depot with our prisoner, and one guard on the way to West Point. So there is no prisoner here now. only yesterday one of the fellows struck another, and he was put into the guard house till dark and then he was taken out and the other fellow put in till nine. one was to blame as much a the other. today they are both at work, one sawing and the other splitting wood. I do not know why I had to get back Friday for I had to come back Friday. I think it was because Capt had no authority after that time. I had nothing to do Saturday but drill in the forenoon / we never drill Saturday afternoons. We are now under the charge of Capt Blunt. Wednesday we all turned out in our dress coats and an order was read from Washington. the recruits enlisted at Portland Boston and Cincinatti report at Washington imediately. so now we are off sure. I think we will leave here Monday but it may be a day or two before or after. I cannot tell whether we will go through Worcester or not. think very likely we will and think very likely we may not. I did not tell the fellows here that Crossley was married but some way they heard yesterday that it was in they paper. they pleague him some but they say it was thanksgiving and he can deny that so no one knows whether he is married or not and no one cares. I have nothing more to write this time. If you write soon direct to 75 State St. Co. C. U.S. Engineers. Lavina write too. I do not think I shall write again before I leave. that is if we leave as we expect. I have every thing I need my shirts I would not take five dollars for. I suppose Nancys school commenced Monday. this is all good bye
