Dear Martha
I thought I would write home yesterday but now I am glad I did not as Mothers letter came last night. I think I get all the letters that are sent to me and glad I am to get them I do not get many letters only those from home. I have never thought to write that Crossley was well. he is getting along well enough. I do not think he gets any letters from home. I do not care to say any thing to him about it, but I think he ought to write. I left Warrenton last Monday / That night we camped at Catletts Station. Tuesday night we camped by a brook in a nice opening in the woods but the ground was very damp as it had rained that day and the day before. Wednesday we came on to Stafford. It rained that day but we went into camp just after dinner time so we made our selves comfortable. Stafford is a queer place, a regular county town in Virginia. There is a jail, court house Sheriffs office and one or two old looking houses, one a hotel I think. There was a great many papers in the Sheriffs office and I will send you two. Thursday it rained hard and the roads had become muddy. we came to this place which is about two miles from Fredericksburgh The night we got here I was on guard and it rained harder than ever before I did not get much / sleep but the next night it had cleared off and I had a sound slumber. I went to see Daniel Wiley at Warrenton. he has quite a responsible place. he is well. I have not broken any teeth eating hard bread yet I do not think so much of mince pies &c as I did at first. I get plenty of pork. Some of the hard bread we have had has been wormy and musty but what of that. just toast them and it kills all the bugs or better still fry them with the pork as if they were doughnuts. we get ten hard crackers for a days rations. we used to take all we was a mind to.

I think there is going to be a fight in a day or two by the movements I hope it will decide something Please send a postage stamp once in a while because I cannot get them here /

I would like to have two 50 cent bills sent in the next letter. I do not expect they will pay us in a hurry.

I suppose I shall have a splendid dinner Thanksgiving, hard tack and pork.

good bye
Jerome
