Dear Mother
My last letter home closed quite sudden perhaps you thought. I was trying to get a picture taken and set once but did not get a good one was just going to set again when one of the fellows came and told us the Battalion was packing up so of course we had to leave. we went back to our old camp at Rappahannock Station and stayed two days. we were very busy all the time getting boards and making our tents comfortable. we got nicely fixed when we had to leave. we came here Sunday afternoon. I got a picture taken today that I will send.
The rebs have burned a bridge somewhere in the rear as a consequence there is no forage and the mules did not get their supper last night. I should not write so soon only I am afraid I shall spoil the picture if I do not send it away. it is the only kind I can get. I received your letter yesterday. it was a very good one. I was on the sick report about a week ago with the tooth ache. had it taken out and then went for duty. Jerome
