Jerome Bottomly to Abigail E. Bottomly, 17 September 1864
Near Petersburg Va
Sept 17th 1864
Dear Mother
I received your letter with the money last Tuesday all right. I am now in the same old camp but we have been away to the left for the last eleven days and we were sorry to have to come back here for we were having good times there. two companies were there, and two here. We were camped close to the Williams House Every thing looks as though we would lay here for another week and some time during / the week after next you may expect me to make my appearance as I wrote before
Your caution about my being careful what I eat is very good for I know from others experience, and partly from my own, that a too sudden change is dangerous
I received Nancys letter and was glad to get it
I believe there is nothing more for me to write Time has gone fast so far but I wish the next six days were past
Jerome
