Marine Hospital New Orleans La Jun 21st 1863
Well Frank
My dear boy Pa has got your letter and the penny that you sent him and thanks you very much for your present and for remembering him while he is gone for the presents that you send me shows me that you still think of me and then I am very much pleased to see that you are learning to write so well and if you are a good boy and keep on learning you will soon be so that you can write a good long letter to me and then you can tell me all about home and what you are doing and what books you study at school and how much you learn at school and then you can write for Ma when she is so busy that she cannot write to me. Now Franky please be a good boy while I am gone and work for Ma all that you can then when she writes to me she will tell me all about how well you behave and how much you help her and will make me proud of my man that is at home with ma and lilly Frank I shall send you ten cents in this letter will you give Lilly five of it and kiss her for me, but Franky I must say good night now for it is late and I want to go to bed
