Philadelphia Feb 17. 1864
Laura, I have arrived safely here, but had a tedious time we did not leave Sunbury until 2 A.M. arriving here at 2 P.M. I feel much better than I had expected after my journey. I am to sorry I did not remain while longer with you. I thought the three long hours I stayed in the Depot would never pass weeks & months will & must expire before I can become reconciled to my lot. I could scarcely endure what passed when I left you, but we must be content and if God sees proper, he will comfort us.
I have bought you the album I promised & sent it by Express I could not send it by mail so well. I could not find the kind I had intended to send you but I hope you will be pleased
You can look for it soon.
I have not seen any of our Company yet. Still I look for them this evening I have ascertained the place of rendezvous to be Chester Hospital in Delaware County Pa, 14 miles from Philadelphia on the Baltimore & Wilmington Railroad I will take the train in the morning for there. we expect to go to the front shortly, if nothing happens more than I know of at the present.
I will be compelled to write you a short letter as I have no place / to be alone, the house is full of men making noise. it would be more pleasant to be with you. my love to the family
please answer, from your devoted friend
