William H. Thurston to Laura J. Morgan, 1 April 1864
Camp Hancock
April 1st 1864

Laura
Your kind letter came to hand last evening but I could not answer then and will try and do so this evening I have been busy all day in the rain arranging things and have recd a new Battery and so many new men which makes trouble. I am not well this evening hardly able to write I would not pretend to undertake to write to anyone else but you I will not write much and perhaps when I take a good sleep I may feel better

I cannot do justice to the letter you wrote to me, hoping you will not blame me / I sent you some pictures last evening, hoping they may please you. I sent to New York for them. I shall send for some more soon, providing you wish to have them.

Bill Reynolds is a Major in the 12th New York Cavalry. I have nothing much to say concerning Sallie Bucher only I hope in the future she will not be so free in writing about certain young gents.

I hardly know how to commence this evening to write I feel so upside down I shall not write much more and in a few days I shall write again providing I feel better

I thank you for the picture you sent me I think it looks very much like you. I will keep it and as soon as you / send me another I will send it back, although this is good enough.

remember me to your family and friends and write soon from your friend
