Laura, your most kind and welcome letter came to hand this evening finding me well, and I was to much pleased to hear from you and the family. we have had beautiful weather here since I last wrote to you. to day we had a grand review by Lieut Genl Grant I tell you we had a splendid time. I wish you could have been here to see so many thousand men and the beautiful flags and glistening bayonets, indeed it looked magnificent and grand.

I paid Brother Silas a visit on the 17th of this month he is well. I spent a full day with him I do think the time must seem / long to the young folks at home so many of the young gone to this Army must make it lonesome I wish I could be at home I would make sport enough for a dozen. I think you know that I am a noisy and good for nothing boy. I am to sorry that I did not get to see you before I left home, but I did not, and I hope the time may soon come that I may come home and stay all the time

I am also glad that you have heard from your brother Henry it must afford you great satisfaction to have a letter from him since it has been so long a time since you have heard from him. I wrote to him but I have not heard from him but expect to soon please give him my love, and tell him I would love to hear from him soon.

I must now soon close please answer and tell me the good and important news.

I had a good long letter from Chester he is well and lives at Lewisburg. also my best wishes to the family and friends also to you from your most Affectionate friend
